Identify Early (Shelby?) Injection
Some gal brought me an early fuel injection that her deceased husband had been saving before he passed away. The story she gave me was that "there were only two of these built for Carol Shelby". The numbers on the part show serial numbers of 12 and 24 so I'm not sure that's accurate. The address on the part is:
4500 Sinoma Highway, Santa Rosa, California, 95405 The part says "Hill, Model J" and a model number of 3.182974. Can anyone identify this part? http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...=11639&thumb=1 http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...=11640&thumb=1 http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...=11641&thumb=1 http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...=11642&thumb=1 http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...=11643&thumb=1 |
No idea about the "built for Shelby" part but i've never seen or heard of one like that. Also not sure about "early" since there is a Zip code on that address.
Looks like it was to fit any four barrel manifold and the height of it might not even fit under a Cobra or GT350 hood. Very unique anyways! |
Bill E,
Actually the number you referred to as a model number appears to be a patent number. Here's one reference to it: Carburetor - Roger, Hill Raymond It describes a "Fuel injector for fluid pumps for internal combustion engines" published 05/11/1965, authored by Roger, Hill Raymond. Interestingly, the device is referred to as a "carburetor" in the rest of the description. Not sure where to go from here - don't have time to pursue, but perhaps you or someone reading this can take it another step... Tom PS: This appears to be a more complete reference: http://www.google.com/patents/US3182974 Good luck interpreting the legalese! |
Bill,
Not a Shelby supported item, not built for them either. Sorry Bill S. |
Thanks for the info. I will let her know she also told me the name of the guy that gave it to her husband Bob Gunderson

I wonder if this pc is possibly related to a hillborn injection. None the less it looks like an interesting pc.
Is it for sale? Gene |
She wont's to sale it but. I think she may have an over inflated idea of its value. Make an offer and I will see if she is willing. I think it would fit a cobra. but I would wont to play with it on a dyno to see what it is all about. If you were doing a display motor it would be cool O was thinking of installing it on a direct port manifold and using it as a throttle body

Patent US3182974 - Carburetor - Google Patents
Did a patent search on that #. This is what I came up with. Somewhat similar but not exactly the same. I would imagine this is a later or earlier version. Interesting stuff. I wonder if the old man is still around? |
I did a search on hid name and it looks like he passed away in 85. these must have worked ok because it looks like there were several generations of them. would like to talk to some one who ran one.
|
Does she want to sell it? Never did get back to me.
