"Tire Expert"? Be serious. If a tire has a DOT rating, and they all do, it has to meet the specs. for that tire. If not, it's scrapped.
I've heard this "internet story" before and asked a buddy that owns a tire store that sells almost every tire made. He said it's B.S.
I ordered my tires from Discount Tire and had them mounted on my Vintage Wheels knock offs. They did an awesome job and took great care mounting and balancing the tires. No problems at all.

Tires from TireCrawler. Much more cost effective and on time and in my garage.

Those look really nice. Can't wait to see them mounted. If the weather holds out I will be taking a trip to Elmira on Tuesday with my car. Have put 700 miles on it, 300 on the trip home, just getting it out for a couple of hours here and there when the weather allows.

Are you going to do the ride for people with Autism this spring/summer?

Cobra #3170 03-28-2014 04:42 PM

2nd grade tires

Especially Michelin, they are very proud of their reputation and have the best quality control of any tire manufacturer. I believe they would scrap rather than have an inferior tire out in the market with their name on it. Other manufacturers do sell tires that could not pass OE specifications to retail outlets. My experience with Michelin was that they could get their tires to pass our requirements while other manufacturers struggled with the same standards.

By no means I consider myself a tire expert, however, this was confirmed by Michelin people and they are the experts...I had a bad experience and it coincided with what happened to my tires.
