CSX3026 which is the real cobra

CSX3026 as stated on the build sheet located on the passenger side window
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-S...28122%2529.jpg

I attended the mount Dora Museum of Speed on March 14, 2014 owned by Kerry Bogard showing us his personal car collection. There was a blue cobra with signs indicating it is CSX3026. All I want to know is which cobra is real the red CSX3026 owned by Anthony Boosalis or Kerry Bogard blue version of CSX3026

CobraDan 03-23-2014 04:53 PM

Anthoby Boosalis owned CSX3026

CSX3026 red cobra
Unpainted/black interior, billed to Shelby American on 1/2/65 CSX3026 was finished under work order #15081 as a full competion car, and was invoiced to the Horn- Williams Motor Co. (Dallas, TX) on 3/16/66: “1 competion model,CSX3026, 1966 cobra, silver, $9.650.00” with an additional charge for bronze bushings ($106) and Koni shocks ($240, installed). Fright charges to truck 3026 to Dallas ($185) made Horn-Williams’ final cost $10,281.00, William McNamara (Dallas, TX) specially ordered the cobra in ’66 Buick Riviera color code Z, Silver Green Metallic, and is thought to have raced the car in Europe during ’66 and ’67. A scrutineer’s tag was found in 3026 from Brands Hatch, dated 1/22/67, by the cars next owner. F. Gene Fisher (Carlisle, PA) who bought the car in ’68, by this time, it had been repainted red and featured stainless steel side pipes, Fisher painted the car medium metallic blue with white racing stripes over the hood and front fenders and installed a full-width black roll bar, using 8.5” FIA Halibrands front and rear, Fisher raced 3026 in the northeast region of the SCCA in A/P, establishing track records at Bryar Motorsports Park (NH) and Summit Point (WV) in ’70. The cobra was sold circa ’72 to Curtis Jackson (Oxford, GA) following which it was repainted red and fitted with a street exhaust system while retaining its full roll bar. Investment Motorsports (IL) bought 3026 in ’87 and gave it a thorough rebuild over the next three years with Bill Murray (Longmont, CO) doing some of the work, the car appeared for sale early in ’91 at a price of $825,000, painted Rangoon red and fitted with a competion windscreen, black side pipes, black quick-jacks, a black driver’s roll bar and 6.5”/8.5” FIA Halibrands. It was purchased through George Stauffer/Stauffer Classics (Blue Mounds, WI) by Ken Quintenz/DK Associates (Columbus OH), who advertised the car again in 8/91: “Factory Competion 427 cobra #3026. History in Shelby Registry and in supporting documents, meticulously and perfectly restored by hand using all of the original components of this car. $895,000.” He elected to keep 3026 rather than sell it, and brought it to SAAC-17 (Portland, OR) 7/92 and SAAC-18 (Watkins Glen, NY) 7/93. At the latter, 3026 received a premier award in the Concours competion class. The cobra repeated at SAAC-22 Road America (Elkhart, WI) 7/97. 3026 was available for sale as of early ’97 through Lee Holman of Charlotte, NC. Modified for Vintage Racing with a fuel cell, a dry-sump oiling system on the passenger floor, a roll cage with safety beams in the doors, and other upgrades, 3026 was acquired in ’04 by Symbolic Motors (LaJolla, CA). They sold it to Gary Campilongo (Pleasant, CA). From whom Anthony Boosalis (LaCanada, CA) bought it 3/06. 3026 has been pictured in the Shelby American, #62, P.31; #64, P,41 (bottom); #66, P.27; P. Hazan’s “AC Cobra 260-289-427,” P.66(#16); Rinsey Mills’ “AC Cobra,” P.144 (top); Vintage Motorsport Magazine, 11-12/98, P. 55.

Didn't you get the memo from Ned?

LMH 03-23-2014 06:01 PM

The red car is 3026, A full comp model. The description of the blue car as 3026 would be incorrect as an "SC". Also, doesn't the rollbar look a little low on the blue car?

The blue Mt. Dora car appears to be an ERA replica. It's for sale at an asking price of $87,500: 1989 AC Cobra for Sale | ClassicCars.com | CC-455544

And yes, it sports a repro chassis plaque stating that it's CSX3026.

Blue car also has a molded hood scoop. Short fat roll bar too. Looks like a contemporary to me.

I knew the club cobra experts would give me the answers, our group got the tour & this cobra Kerry said was not for sale. He also has an AC cobra & later I will post a picture. With my original camera shot I can read all the BS around the blue cobra.

CobraDan 03-24-2014 03:26 AM

Looks to be an Autokraft MkIV judging by the DOT-compliant bumper setup.

Mark IV 03-24-2014 06:38 AM

Yes,

AC MK IV.

Bumper and center mount Jaguar XJ fuel filler are I.D.s. Also the interior lamp between the seats as well as the triple wipers required to meet the federal W/S clearing standards.

MOTORHEAD 03-24-2014 06:47 AM

both Cobras at the museum had glassed in hood scoops, so I was suspicious of both. Other things weren't right about the silver one and I figured it was a fiberglass car until I saw a DENT in the left front fender about 3" back from the headlite. Figured it must be an AC.

1985 CCX 03-24-2014 06:55 AM

The blue car is glass scoop, front fender inner lip is glass, hardware is kit like and again the roll bar; however the MKVI would have an aluminum molded in scoop and the door window attachment point is totally MKVI

CobraDan 03-24-2014 07:25 AM

Thanks for all the info, the blue cobra was very hard to get to but when I got home & could read the Build Sheet which I copied & posted, I knew something was wrong. At $87K that is a high price for a kit but no ware near the price of a big block like the real CSX3026

LMH 03-24-2014 08:22 AM

I don't know that much about the MKIV. Do they have that SC style lip to the rear fender?
Larry

1985 CCX 03-24-2014 08:52 AM

MKVI = Typically yes.......... S/C Lip

Nedsel 03-24-2014 12:15 PM

The owner should be aware that there are legal issues involved with affixing a manufacturer's ID tag to a car bearing an incorrect VIN, especially when said VIN is owned by someone else and involves valuation in excess of a million dollars.
