Interested in buying this car. Your thoughts?
Hey guys,
So this factory five 5.0 Supercharged cobra is for sale about 30 minutes away from my house. It's on ebay and the reserve has been met it is at $33,700 the auction ends tomorrow. I wondering what your thoughts are about the car. and what you think it is worth?? I am going to go see it tonight and was thinking of giving him an offer so he takes it off ebay and sells it to me. He wants 38k for it he said. Shelby Cobra Cobra | eBay |
the car looks nice, before buying I would go over with fine tooth comb. FFR builds a quality kit, but it all depends on who builds it!! A air ride live axel?? Just be sure & understand what you are buying. I like the FFR's but I have never been a fan of the "kicked in the butt" look of the older MKIII's. The new FFR MKIV is a much better looking AC body wise. IMO But all in all; if the car is in great shape, it's worth should be in the mid 30's but no more. You might also look on this site to see what is available in the for sale section. there are more than a few nice rides for under 40K Good Luck in your search. ;)

I think where it's at right now is a fair enough price for it.

I'd sell you my factory five with nicer stuff for less money....
looks like a decent "donor build" . A lot of no frill stuff i.e 4 lug wheels, drum rears, donor 5.0 (but supercharged,) hood pins, unfinished trunk, j pipes, I'm assuming 3 link, airbags?....now there's nothing wrong with any of that, I just think you can find nicer for almost $40k if you search. now that said. Great color and paint, looks clean, and you couldn't build that car for $35K today. And it is SB100 already for you in California. I hear that's worth $3k to you guys on a used car. As I write this the auction is at $33,700. I think that's a "fair" price for both buyer and seller |
Being it has 4 lug wheels, check to see if it has 4 wheel disks and what type do brakes are on the front. Subtract a fair amount off if they just kept the factory brake system. With a supercharged engine, that would have been one of the first things to upgrade along with the shocks/ struts.

went and saw the car and I wasn't that impressed the owner was total a-hole and something seemed off about the car. The horn just stopped working and when i drove it really didn't have as much power as i thought it would have and breaks sucked. The guy couldn't answer any of my questions he didn't really know much. I saw this car a while back which i still like and interested in. Its mid states. What would u say makes better cars Mid states or Factory Five? Also how much do you think this is worth? 1965 Used Shelby COBRA 427 SC at Celebrity Cars Las Vegas, NV, IID 10698350 thank you so much for your help guys. i love your opinions. |

It's actually not for sale right now (but they say everything has it's price, and the $38k the other guy was asking would get me to sell and pay delivery) But here's a quick snapshot for price and build comparison It's a MK 3 from Factory 5 titled as a 2005 with 7800 miles completely non donor build, with the EF crate engine having the only "used" part in a seasoned block on the 351W that produces 400hp because this isn't a for sale thread, I'll be brief tremec 3650 trans, IRS rear suspension Pin drive length (some day I'll convert to pin drives) cobra 4 wheel discs (coated by Disk Brakes -r- us) Team 3 wheels custom interior...period correct brown leather stainless sidepipes all upgraded suspension pro-paint job by worship 1/ NC painter with rolled edges and hidden body mounts There's over $50k in the build and if I was to sell, I realistically think it would fetch $30k. The car's not perfect, gets driven and "needs" a few things http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...f/DSC_0033.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...0-30-10011.jpg I think that's a realistic price for a "decent" FFR car, (especially a non donor, pro painted, IRS car.) |

I think that Midstates is over priced also to put it mildly. Motor and Supercharger rebuilt? Really. Hmmm. Driven by a little ol' lady from Pasadena.
The appraisal is a joke on many levels. No need to get into though but it is laughable. |

A few issues, but MAJOR.
First is the engine. I'll assume its a 5.0l [I didn't read anywhere that it was a 351w]. Any 5.0l engine will crack right down the middle of the block at, or around 500hp. Also I don't think I read where it had forged pistons. If not then WHY doesn't it? Any good forced induction engine will have forged pistons, not cast, not hyperpathic. Also, what about the connecting rods. No way would I run the factory rods with the 5/16 rod bolts in any performance engine. Also, the transmission. Its just listed as a 5 speed so I think we can assume its a factory Ford 5 speed which was an Ok trans for the factory 225hp, but NOT for anything making around 500hp. The other issues have been discussed. Anyway, then engine alone would be a deal breaker for me. |

Checked out the site and didn't see anything special. There was a Lister Vette and what I found funny were all the custom bikes and cars coming through Vegas (Pawn Stars & Kounts Kustoms). Ozzy Osbourne's custom bike with 20 miles which he never road if you know Ozzy. That was my laugh of the day. |
Nice car but $27K tops
|
Also you need to sit in it and be sure you fit I sat in a early one out hear and its small no leg room forward my son that is 5'9 his knees were hitting the steering wheel.

Hey guys thanks for the advice. Yeah there was diffentily somthing suspicious about the bidding. I think he had his friend bid on the car. I'll find out if it's still for sale. And there is no way the car had 500hp I test drove it and it didn't move compared to the 428 I drove last week. The guy couldn't answer any of my questions either.
How much do you guys think the yellow 351 in Vegas is worth? Thanks for your opinions! |

I read your thread about how to buy a cobra and it was very informative. Thanks! I'm going to take that all into consideration when looking for a car. I am wondering what u think a good price would be to offer on the yellow mid states cobra that is super charged located in Vegas. Thanks for your help! |
Although a good looking car (I'm partial to yellow and I think Midstates has a nice body appearance) I think $45k is too much for the car unless it's the nicest, most sorted out Midstates ever built. Judging from the pictures that probably isn't likely. That is about the very bottom of the ERA market and unless your only goal is 750HP (and if the car really makes that - doubtful) waiting for an ERA would be a better buy for that money or a few thousand more. If the car looks good close up and drives well and the dealer were to get serious in the low to mid $30k range, then it might be OK. I agree with some in the earlier post on this car, that the dash is probably not a tough fix.

Plenty of cars for similar money.
