Do Cobra owners worry about gas prices?

Just checking if owners budget gas costs in ownership or it is simply part of the Cobra experience to spend big $$$ at every gas stop?

Like air
gotta have it.

I thought about gas mileage right up until I got the car on the road and got behind the wheel. It is so much fun to drive, I really don't care - worth every penny. This is evidenced by the fact that I just got my car finished in January and couldn't really drive it because of weather very much until recently. In spite of that, I just passed 2,000 miles. So, there are a few cars out there with fuel injection and conservative power that do pretty good on mileage but for the most part you can expect to burn plenty of gas.

At $3.79 for premium Spin the wheels!
It's only money!

Hey Gary,

You guys in Jersey have great gas prices! Question, though. Jersey doesn't allow motorists to "self-serve" fill-up - an attendant pumps the gas. Do they let you fill your Cobra?

The latter. If you're worried about cost of ownership, then buy a Prius. :)

Or, if all the banter I've read about RodKnock is true, just leave it parked in the garage :p

Always think about gas prices but in the toys it is the price we have to pay. The daily drivers is another whole story as it should be. Sad the way it is but it's politics as usual.

Never gave it any thought

Yes they do, They seem intimidated about touching the car as it should be.
Our gas prices are great compared to most other states it's our property tax that kill us.($18k)

VP110 is almost $9 gallon :D

Hopefully as a future cobra owner in the near future I would be lying through me teeth if I said gas didn't bother me. I wouldn't care if I was filthy rich or what its more mental than anything. So you go 170 miles with a SBF 427 vs probably 400 miles with a coyote or mod motor. Without getting into a debate about one being more fun...or one sounds better ect.....just the pure numbers make me go yuck.

Don't forget the insurance aspect of this, some insurance companies give a big break on premiums if you claim to be a part time driver under 5K miles a year - that's a built in gas limiter right there. Btw, if you think they don't check your mileage think again, I've been called a couple of times to bring my SRT4 in for a mileage check.

I never worry about the cost of fuel with my play cars.

I don't drive them far enough for the price of gas to matter much. If my budget were that tight, I'd sell the car.

The only thing I worry about is finding a gas station before I have to get out and push. :)

So true on all 3 points!!! When I had the Cobra and now the Ford GT I figure that I need to be with range of a gas station at about 200 miles. It helps when you've got a bad back to have to stop frequently. It's not exactly conducive to a road trip across the barren I70 through Utah.

Gas becomes more of a factor based upon the number of miles that you drive the car. A cobra that sits in the garage for the most part is not that costly to run. On the other hand, if you are putting 10,000 miles on it in a year, then it is a different story. It is the price that you pay to have what you have.

kevins2 05-13-2014 02:39 PM

To sum it up, the perfect caption for a photo of a Cobra at a gas station would be "Cobra in it's natural habitat"

If that bothers you, then you should really think it through.

GregAgrest 05-13-2014 03:17 PM

Our gas prices are higher than most out here in California but I don't worry about them. The car is just too much fun to worry about the price of gas AND everything else we put on or in the car is more expensive too. Just part of the experience but a good one!!
