Default Supercharged Unique Cobr

To any Club Cobra members,

My name is Chad and I'm a new member to Club Cobra. I am also new to the Cobra Kit car scene but have always loved Cobras. I don't currently own a kit cobra but am strongly considering buying a fully "turn key" 427 model from Unique Motors. I really want a barn burner in the quarter mile so I'm thinking about a big block (5 speed) with a centrifugal supercharger. However the engine builder is recommending a naturally aspirated 428 FE block (converted to 4 bolt mains) with about 500 horsepower as he says the extra power from a supercharger wouldn't help all that much because the car is difficult to hook up off the line. Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated.

It comes down to tire choice you can run a drag radial and put a lot of power to the ground, especially if you stuff the biggest one you can in it. From a roll you can hold a lot, if you start launching it hard off the line at a dragstrip then other things will need to be strengthened or they will break.

There's an obnoxious guy who lurks on the forum with the username TwinTurbo (just kidding Thomas) who is flirting with the 9's with an FFR. A barn burner and streetable enough for cruising with us on the weekends. Maybe he'll chime in with some comments/advice. His problem isn't so much hooking up as finding a prepared strip that will let him run those speeds without totally hacking up the car with a full cage. He's got everything but the halo upper portion, which in my view, would totally ruin the car's appearance for street use.

Actually I was going to say he will probably need some HD parts in that Jag rear suspension Unique uses to hold up under a supercharged FE with manual transmission. Might even need some upgrades with a built 428 if strip activities are his main interest.

Forget the 5 spd. if you are really interested in going quickly at the strip. The clutch thingy would be more fun on the street and track, maybe, but there's a reason you won't see them in the really scortching drag cars. (Lenco and such, not withstanding)
