Need I remind you that you have called the Cobra's that we enjoy and love "hot rods shaped like Cobra's," or that "no Cobra should be more than $50K," and they're "not worth a wait of more than 6 months." You've given us such wonderful threads like: "Do you worry about parking your Cobra?", "CS and the leftover frames saga" or "Do owners budget gas costs in ownership or it is simply part of the Cobra experience to spend big $$$ at every gas stop?" And then there's the warm and fuzzy posts such as: "typical old guy response, very donald sterling", "my daddy always said the boys in the suburbs can get down & dirty" "Your kit car isn't more complicated than a modern car" "I would compare the 'side pipe' look to modern import car guys putting cartoon-like rear wings and racing/parts stickers on their street cars. It just screams 'race boy'" "The side pipes became popular in the 1980s because buyers of hot rods shaped like a Cobra wanted the 'race' look. The side pipes do nothing more than burn your legs and disturb the peace." Yep, this forum is indeed the world's largest _____(u fill in the blank). And thank you for joining us and making our ranks grow stronger. ;) P.S. I'll ignore the "What are we teaching our children when we open the garage door?" remark. |

I was checking out GTRs a year ago when I was shopping for my new daily driver...which means 30k or so a year driving all over this great state on some of the most mucho muy goodo roads this side of wherever that Italian road was that Jezzer, Slow and Hampster found...33 from Maricopa to Ojai, my own particular favorite since I take it so often...the road from Napa up to the Hess Winery, Mt. Palomar through Warner Springs and Julian to Ortega Wells, 198 from Coalinga to the 101, etc. What an impeccable piece of kit. Just couldn't quite get past how likely it would be to break down south of Blythe hauling towards Glamis in 110 heat. Also has to be able to drive into strawberry fields and down vineyard roads (although the C6 actually did pretty damn good...I got to where I could replace the air dam in under an hour). |

Jamo,
Lots of beautiful roads in your neck of the woods. But Glamis, Blythe, strawberry fields? I picture you in a Land Rover. Hmm, come to think of it, not a bad game. Guess the posters daily driver... Alex, I'll take Nissan Leafs for $200. |
There was a thread like that years ago...could be fun...might be surprised.
I've had decked out big Broncos (80s), an Expedition awhile ago...and they're great once you get to the ag client's location, but getting there wasn't as much fun. If I have to get real down and dirty, I just borrow a pickup from a client. Wine area clients are a little more fun...I've been given Defenders (90 and a 110) to use for a few days, and what must be the most used up/ beat up G-Wagon still running...patina rich. Ended up with a 650i M-sport (twin turbo) for a couple of years. Magnificent beast actually. Loved the M6, but just a bit much for what I put my business cars through. What I was really eyeballing was a Petty Challenger, but it was a bit "young" for me according to the wifey, who comes along on some trips (the ones to Napa and Monterey...she never asks when I'm heading to Blythe for some reason). What do you drive daily? Steve...you know what you can do. :p |

I would never disagree with your bride, but.......... I think you are on solid ground choosing the Dodge, for many reasons. The car and "The King" are both idols from our generation. Hell if they made a 2015 AAR Cuda I'd sure as hell want one, Gurney was one of my heros as well. Moreover I think Dodge did it just right, then and now. By that I mean the persona is more mature and masculine than the Mustang et al. Sales demographics also point in that direction. Dodge also has the nod for replication, the 2005 Mustang came pretty close, the Camaro, not so much. Of the vintage Challengers I prefer the '71. Split grille, gills in the back 1/4's, and shorter slash-cut side stripe, etc. Of the pictures I've seen the next-gen challenger will emulate the '71, with 600hp. If that is true, I will be ordering the SRT, White/Black, shaker, 6sp pistol-grip manual short R/T side stripes and summer performance tires.............and smoke 'em like a teenager.;):) ADD: I'd love for them to bump the CI up to 426 and paste it to the shaker. |
Yup...for all those things and more.
We had a little Gasholes get together down in the Keys last year...I rented a Challenger R/T (small hemi) from Miami for the week and damn if I didn't just flat have a ball with it...kept kicking up the gravel going sideways down the curvy driveway every time we got in it to go grab a meal (ask Lovehammer). Funny part was when Wilf, a proper English gent, got in it and played Southern good ol boy with the loud pedal like a native. Totally agree re it being much better looking than a Camaro or Mustang. Petty's folks leaned on a few and actually got them to turn left (and right) properly...taking care of the one little issue that needed to be done. course...then they dumped some more horses in it, etc. I was already to get my dress black boots out of the back of the closet and find me a new Stetson. I still may get one, or like you say, wait for the new factory offering, just for rainy weekend driving. ;) |
I wanted to chime in and say that I am still in the Cobra business. Unfortunately I am unable to change my screen name or I would have. The previous business and business name "Competition Classics" have been closed. My previous business partner and I have parted ways and my girlfriend and I have opened our own shop. We still cater to the Cobra community no matter who the manufacturer was and we are enjoying every day of the new business. We can restore your original Cobra to concours condition or we can turn your not so original Cobra into your own interpretation of what you want your Cobra to be. We reproduce parts that are of concours quality and we are constantly coming out with new products to offer to Cobra owners or builders. I also offer inspection services to clients looking to purchase original Cobras and replicas as well. Please keep us in mind if we can help you in any way, thank you.
Thank you to those that have provided us with positive comments!!! RACEWHERE 348 State Place Escondido, Ca 92029 |

LOL, must have been the previous business. We have been at this location for over a year now.
I believe "1985 CCX" had started one, my only reason for reviving this thread was because it involved me and my business. |

Your best bet is to start a new one and allow this one to die slowly in the archives. ;) |
John,
Please start a new thread as requested. And, give yourself and your company a proper introduction. I'd like to know a lot more about CompClassics/RaceWear. |
Will revive it........
