Good...two distinct posts which clearly sets forth the opposing viewpoints on this everlasting issues.

Now talk about something else...like 800hp+lousy tires+morons.

Larry

Yeah, but that was from the tow truck in the Queen Mary scene (although the damage was visible in a prior scene due to the sequence of filming and editing). It didn't suffer any damage as part of the storyline.

"Close" is relative and I think most Cobra replicas fit that definition.

I'm not talking about the unabridged Walgreens pocket version you use.

The Registry nails it at page 30 and 308. Stop confusing yourself.

So my car is a copy of itself????:JEKYLHYDE:LOL:

Does anyone know if the cars in the Gumball movie were actually driven across the country as portrayed or where they shipped from site to site?

Evan,

I have did a lot of looking and so far I have only found things that would tend to make me think they were actually driven across the country. Nothing that actually states one way or the other. But I liked the movie so much I did a lot of reading on the people and cars in it. I did find one article that said most of the shooting was done in New York, Arizona, and Los Angles where the race ended. If anyone has a reference that tells for sure I too would like to know.

Ron :)

I forget where I read it, but I believe the movie was mainly shot in California with a few scenes shot in the New York City area. Cali stood in for most of the other states they "drive through."

Amateur, the movie was a first of it's kind, shot at real speed, and on location(s) across the US, not just NY, NJ, and California (some shots are from the Hollywood sound studio, but that was for the Vette being broken in half, and two other short shots of the van filled with gasoline, both used as filler after the main shooting was over. When I'm done moving and can find the right boxes (at least 2), I can post another dissertation on the movie. if you can't wait, I believe many years ago, I posted a similar time line, along with who they wanted to play what parts, and what cars were originally supposed to be used in the production, same goes for scouting out locations, the permissions from each state, etc.

So they drove across country and filmed in various selected locations?

That pic of the Cobra in the Lincoln Tunnel is classic. Not much has changed in the tunnel today. Kinda cool knowing your are driving through the same area they filmed in.

Does anyone know which tube of the tunnel they used for that sequence?

I have duplicated the Cobras run through Manhattan twice, once in FFR2134K (351W/385hp, no baffles in the mufflers), the other in ERA188 (427 Center Oiler, toploader 4spd). Both at the crack of dawn on a fall Sunday morning, three years apart...The first on a dare, the second because I wanted to do it again.....There is nothing like the sound of a Cobra racing through midtown Manhattan and the Lincoln Tunnel, nothing.

The chase scene with the bikers was fimed at the Orange Circle in Orange, CA.
Very close to The Pit Stop, one of the last places to get 100/110 Leaded at the pump (around here, anyways).
Just don't expect to put it directly in the the Cobra ;)

Nice Bill!
Now lets see who will step up and repeat the scene where the Cobra and Ferrari race through the LA River!

I'm not an Hollywood historian...

...but I have stayed at the Portofino Hotel a couple of times. No topless greeter along the drive up to it though.

They do play up the connection a bit with in-room literature.

I'd be interested in seeing any new information, but according to IMDb there isn't much in the way of filming locations outside of NY/NJ and CA/AZ.

The Gumball Rally (1976) - Filming Locations - IMDb

Maybe your records can expand on the collected wisdom of IMDb...

I wrote a college paper back in early 80's (TV& Film course in NY), had the chance to speak with production crew, some actors, and have in my possession several production schedules, rewritten scripts (one original (or copy of) used to pitch the project originally), notes, and post production literature as well as movie posters, counter cards, TV/Radio scripts....My dream back then was to build a collection of cars based on the movie....I heard someone actually did build a collection based on the film in Ohio, but over the years I've never been able to gather more information on it.

Early Sunday mornings are the only way to go...Literally you have to get there before the sun comes up. Just as the sun crests, you have to take off, or you'll never make it through mid town.....2nd,3rd, gears are the best. As for the tunnel (think Port Authority upper public parking lot entrance), it's hit and miss, but if you time it right you can whip down and scream through the tunnel (again 2nd & 3rd gears to keep the motor revs up, but the speeds down).........When you get out on the Jersey side, you need to be careful until you get to the start of the corkscrew headed up and to the left, you can then use your own common sense till you almost hit the NJ Turnpike.

2: Need to wait for another close family member to buy another Townhouse in the city (in the 60's would be nice to have access to again) for me to lay low in overnight :3DSMILE:

#1 will happen once we are settled in.
#2 is anyones guess, most certainly not in my price range

Sorry to bring bad news but the days/nights of racing or driving fast in any Tri-state tunnel are over after 9/11. Lincoln Tunnel speed limit is 35 mph and is heavily enforced.

back when Koch, Dinkins, and Rudy were New York Mayors, u could do 60 mph. No more.

But rules and speed limits are made to be broken. Just bring Red Bull drinks for the cops.
