Wrecked 800 hp Cobra at the Gumball 3000

Has anyone heard about this yet or know any more. A nice 4000 series (at one time). Wrecked during the 2014 Gumball 3000.

800-Horsepower Shelby Cobra Crashes During 2014 Gumball 3000 | car news @ Top Speed

"800 HP" and it is on BFG TAs?!?!?!?

He deserves it............................

mrmustang 06-19-2014 05:05 PM

Stupid is as stupid does. Too much money, not enough brains, just like 90% of those who have run in previous Gumball 3000 adventures

rodneym 06-19-2014 05:07 PM

Those tires are bad news on a 400HP Cobra.
"800HP"? Wet road? BFTA's?
That's a recipe alright.

Why is it listed as a 1966 car. It's a fiberglass replica and the article should so state

Good catch.....it should be a 1965.

Cobrajames 06-19-2014 07:28 PM

Is this the same cobra?

It says 1966 model not 1966 car, it just happens to be cleverly worded just like the MSO.
Something about cutting your nose off to spite your face comes to mind.

Why should it so state? To make you feel better about your FFR? It states it a Shelby Cobra. Accurate. It identifies it as a CSX 4000. Accurate. It misstates it as a 1966 in one sentence. Oops.

Do you have your car registered as a 1965, 1966 etc..? Lots of owners do but don't technically own a "Cobra" of any year.

Also, accurately you dont own a Cobra either and should so state.

Just say'n.

vatdevil 06-19-2014 09:10 PM

Their Facebook page states front tire blew out, spun three times and impacted barrier while traveling at highway speed.

At the risk of "here we go again", each state decides what year the car will be called when it's registered. Here in AZ, it would be registered as a 65. With this particular car, I don't know if it's street legal or not, so it may not be registered.

Yep, that's the same one. Don't think I've ever seen a 4000 series with a red interior before. First time for everything I guess.%/

And therein lies the confusion and problem. The article may lead someone to believe it's a 1960's Shelby Cobra, not a current replica (re)produced by Shelby.

I'll pre-apologize to Jamo. :o

Jamo 06-20-2014 12:56 AM

Well that's a new tact.

Hmmm...so,does that make it a 65?

REAL 1 06-20-2014 06:53 AM

So without that boldedsentence we're good. Right?

Kinda like the same confusion and problem when guys who don't own a Shelby Cobra of any year, AC or Kirkham refer to their cars as a "Cobra". Yeah. I kinda see your point.

NewYorkGuy 06-20-2014 06:59 AM

the Cobra is the wrong car to use for a 3000 mile race.

REAL 1 06-20-2014 07:11 AM

They used Cobras at LeMans covering a similar distance years ago with some success at real race speed in a REAL race. Check out the history books.

The Gumball is IMHO an idiot get together for people with more money than brains to pretend race and in most cases no driving talent in a "rally" on public roads from one high priced hotel party to the next leaving automotive carnage and empty liqour bottles in their wake.

In my mind it gives the namesake movie a bad image.

It's a money making gig.

No car is the right car for those idiots. They should really be taking "party buses".

jhand 06-20-2014 07:22 AM

It was just in NYC last friday before the cars headed to London. They guys in the cobra had no care for anyone on the road. They both had on helmets and drove as it was a race track. It was only a matter of time until this happened.

No. It doesn't make it a 65 but as far as the government is concerned, it is.

In the case of this accident, looks like to me that inexperience (based on the tire choice) is the root of the crash.
