Getting things back together now and did the last of our 3 step polishing process to the sides in preperation for the graphics.

Holy smokes! Is that real or did you build that from a kitcar? Love that
|
It really needs the low-cut wrap-around windscreen....But I still give it a 10 Dick!
|
Maricopa- To stay true to the P-51 mustang a flat wind screen is appropriate. The bubble canopy is actually in the rear over the pilots head.
The bubble windshield is unique but alittle to George Jetson for this project. http://www.ffcars.com/photopost/data...m/image353.jpg |
Oh...OK.
|
Mari- But you might like the mini Merlin we got going in the engine bay:D

When we saw this picture, both Mrs. P-51 and I said "Holy sh*t! That looks amazing!" We can't remember what we were going to do with the bumperettes. Black them out? Red? P-51 |
The car is looking fantastic and I love the chequered nose. However, if I'm absolutely honest, I'm not too keen on the "machine gun" indicators. They're very clever, but a little too contrived in my opinion. Sorry. :o
Can't wait to see the finished article though. :MECOOL: Paul |

HOLY SH?T pretty much sums it up for most that have seen it so far  I'm having trouble convincing new comers that it's really a fiberglass bodied cobra Red over riders in the front and red and yellow checkers for the rear. |

Here's the V-12 exhaust port mockup. We are fabbing them up out of steel since they will be funtional but with a spliter that puts the exhaust to the rear when driving.
The nomenclature is also just a mock up. http://www.ffcars.com/photopost/data...m/image356.jpg |
Now that will be different. I suspect that will be straight exhaust out the ports - no muffling? :)
|
Is this car street legal?
|
Dan that is correct, when the exhaust is switched to the 12 side ports they will be open header:D. But then can be switched to a single chambered undercarriage exhaust that will turn out in front of the rear tire like the original side pipes
NYGuy legal in Ct since the ports are closed and not operatial during street use. But then again were I come from this is considered "Street legal" http://www.ffcars.com/photopost/data...m/image357.jpg |
Looks great! I can't wait to hear it running through those ports. Don't forget to hook up the flame-throwers.:)

My pilot license sure comes in handy :)
The video is of hidden under carriage exhaust that electronically switches to the open header side ports. I used a cell phone for the recording and the sound is nothing like it sounds in person but you can hear the tone and volume change http://www.ffcars.com/photopost/data...m/image379.jpg COBRA P-51 - YouTube Vide 1 |
I've been waiting for an update. :3DSMILE:
That's brilliant. I love the overall look, but I don't think I'd be brave enough to do the same to my Kirkham, although I have often thought about a P51 colour scheme in vinyl, but the chequerboard nose would be very difficult to get right (unless anyone has any ideas :) ). We need to see some good quality pictures of it out in daylight now. :MECOOL: Congratulations and very well done to all concerned. Paul |
Ron,
I like the video. The hankie is a nice touch! Looks like everything is painted and reinstalled. Did you end up painting or dyeing the ports? Quote:
We needed a paint job. Ron helped us take it up a notch or two. :D P-51 |
