Please help identify this cobra!

I was hoping someone could help me figure out who manufactured this cobra replica that I have. I bought it from a guy who originally bought it to make a jig out of it. All I have is the VIN number that was on the vin plate and title. It is VR101502PR01R.
Only pic I have right now is in my profile gallery...hopefully someone can see something that helps. Also, I'm aware the car needs a lot of work and that some things on it are a little quirky (hood scoop).
I am new to forums and relatively new to cobras. Any help would be appreciated!!

Doesn't look familiar to me from what I can see. Can you take some photo's showing the suspension/frame?

I will take more pics as soon as I get back in town. The strange thing about this cobra is the hood tilts forward like a race car making it easier to get to the engine. I haven't seen other cobras with this...have you?

LMH 08-20-2014 12:17 AM

Not sure I understand about the hood. All Cobra's I've seen, both original and replica, tilt forward. (the hinges are on the front of the hood)

I posted another pic in my gallery of a cobra I found with a similar hood. Hopefully that helps explain what I'm talking about. Let me know what you think.

cycleguy55 08-20-2014 01:06 PM

That's a flip front end, not just the hood. I don't know any manufacturer that makes a replica like this, though I suppose many could be modified to work like that.

LMH is probably correct, details of the suspension and frame may be more telling than a flip front end.

LMH 08-20-2014 03:45 PM

The second photo is what looks to me to be a Factory Five, modified with a clamshell front end. They don't come that way as far as I know.
Try to get us some frame/suspension pics when you can and maybe we can tell more then.

What is an attack cobra? Or is that a joke?

Sorry, no joke, company was out of the mid-west in the mid 80's, they used to advertise in Kit Car Magazine. They lasted about 1.5 years before going belly up as their "personal interpretation" of the Cobra was not for everyone.

Can you tell me more about attack cobras? Are they bad? Poor quality?

Tommy 08-21-2014 04:00 AM

I too had not heard of an Attack Cobra, so I did some research. I found this site describing the Attack Cobra as a product of Elegant Motors, a maker of many types of replica cars. Click here. That's all I've found so far.

Yes, poor quality fiberglass lay out, welds that did not penetrate deeply and cracked causing issues for the customers.

Could this be an Elegant Motors "Attack Cobra"...?

eBay item no. 141378646768 from New Port Richey FL. It is Corvette-based and looks like the one linked by Tommy.

This was my Elegant Motors Cobra.
  • Single holes for front/rear bumper
  • No cut out for sidepipes
  • Mustang II front/C4 rear

Not sure what the "Attack" Cobra was.
Mine was a well built, round tube frame, heavy fiberglass bodied car.

Looks like his rear fenders have a different shape where the flare meets the body at the bottom.

I remember the Attack Cobra and an article in Kit Car with Al Unser test driving it and endorsing it. I will look for the issue .

You said that "was" your cobra so I'm assuming you sold it. Mind if I ask why? Also, was it worth a lot less?

I actually sold it because I ran out of room, too many other toys.

Nothing wrong with it at all other than the typical "what can I do to it next" issue that most of us probably have. Drove great, loud enough for ear plugs and created mostly good memorable conversation.

But as I assumed, I missed it and had to build another one. I was sucked into the "if I could do it all over" mindset and here I am again.

This board has been a great resource for info and will provide countless answers to most questions.

Enjoy!
