CSX 2214 Meets Reserve at $215,000 on Ebay
I hope the bidder has been able to view this car in person, as that is a lot of $$$ for a sight unseen car that has been tending time in a warehouse. It would take more brass than I currently have.

Interesting.
Even sight unseen--better gamble than the stock market?

I watched this car when it was first listed and the reserve was met when it reached $85-90k. Not too bad since it's rumored the current seller purchased the car two weeks ago for $90k.

Ever wonder if people try to "heat up" the market before a big auction? Barrett-Jackson is next month in Scottsdale...
I'm such a cynic.

Dan:
So much for the original owner status as stated on Ebay. I wonder if that qualifies as a material misrepresentation. Btsai may be on to something. The curse of a distrustful nature.

Was there a "buy it now" on the car?
If so how much?

This looks like the begining of what happened to the collector car market in the 80's - buddies bidding a car up to start a fire storm. Kinda like what happened in the Ferrari market a few years back.

Folks,
I know of the high bidder "themosttoyswins", to the best of my knowledge, his is a legitimate bid on this vehicle, as he has bid on several of my Shelbys in the past....Only time will tell though......

If the auction concludes successfully, they will pay a pretty penny for a $215,000 sale. Even if it was bogus. I am inclined to think it is legit.
With what Kirkhams and CSX 4000s are bringing why is it difficult to think $200,000 is reasonable for a real Cobra. I mean an original.

An original was brought into Australia not long ago and the rumoured purchase price was somewhere around $400,000.00AU, which is around $200,000.00US.

Oops - Like I said - looks legit to me and a real steal I shouldn't have jumped into this fray as I have no knowledge of the bidders. I just remember the 1.5 million Ferrari's.
Turk I would rather have a one of the new cars based on price.

If the car sells for $215k, the Ebay fee will be $3,280. Only 4 hours to go.

In NCRS parlance, this is known as a "survivor" car. They actually have judging for this type of vehicle--as long as it is a Corvette.
These are always curious relics, as the value and uniqueness is tied directly to their worn patina. The down side is that to keep the car "historical", one is better off not tampering with the historical components, either. The worst thing that could happen to this car is a restoration of any kind, including paint. Better suited for a collector if the car is, in fact, what it is represented to be.
I once had a conversation with Dana Mecum of Mecum auctions. I had purchased a Corvette Drag Car from his collection and I was drooling over a '65 Corvette Fuel Car that he owned that had 1,300 original miles. The discussion got down to low mile cars and their values. He told me that you always need to be suspicious of low mile cars---even if they are, in fact, true low mile cars. He said the mileage is low for a reason and that it is often due to damage, particulary water damage (flooding) or fire. He has seen this so many times in his auction business. He said there are very, very few cars that are bought and legitimately put away. Interesting thought from a guy who has seen it all.

Check the bidding history!
The purchaser "sniped" the auction at the last moment which means that either he's outsmarted the high bidders or he's a figment. It will be interesting to follow this one to completion!
