Well Brent, it's impossible for it to be on Tony's end.

1ntCobra 05-13-2015 06:41 PM

OK, click on link to this thread.

Then click on link to "first unread", get database error, hit back, then repeat 3 or 4 times, eventually "first unread" gets me here...

1ntCobra 05-13-2015 06:47 PM

Hmm, maybe the lather, rinse, repeat might work with "new posts" after a few tries.

No, it doesn't, I clicked on "new posts", got database error, back then try again. After getting the database error 23 times for "new posts" I got tired and stopped.

Things were going along swimmingly this morning. Response was crisp. I was on a topic that made a new page. I was reading page 2 and did the "3" button to move ahead and instantly there was a "Service Unavailable" display. I did back (took me to cached page 2) and tried 3 again, and same thing. Went back one more time and tried 3 and it was a long pause with a page fetch timeout. 5 minutes later (after refreshing coffee cup) it is working again.

Brent Mills 05-14-2015 12:23 PM

This one I know what the issue is. At times the service that runs on the server gets dorked up and ends up causing the site to go down...if I can't get to it for a few hours everyone suffers for those hours the site is down. At the moment I automatically restart the services to try and keep things in a healthy state and to get the site back up if it did fall over, in a less amount of time. I am trying to address the root of the problem, but changing the underlying software that runs everything like MySQL and PHP poses it's own set of risks.

twobjshelbys 05-18-2015 01:13 PM

Things seem to be MUCH better now :)

The response time to the forum is consistent now with what it was "when things were working" (and that would have been months ago). The response is not instantaneous but feels like a server that might be a little off the highest speed trunks of the internet. That means opening a new topic takes a measurable amount of time but not so much that you think (or know) that the link is failing due to errors.

No database errors.

No "system unreachable" events.

Whatever you did seems to have fixed whatever the major issue was.

Bernica 05-18-2015 01:16 PM

Yup, I agree. I run at over 300 mbps and things seem to be working out.
Now...how about being able to see our notifications?

I am still getting database errors. And I am seeing more of them today than usual. I am getting them on clicking on page numbers for threads now. I was not seeing that before.

1ntCobra 05-19-2015 10:51 AM

Wow, I just clicked on "New Posts" and it worked for the first time in weeks!!!!!

Everything else seems to be working too.

Whatever Brent did since yesterday seems to be the trick.

This morning for the first time in a month I was able to open and access the All Cobra Talk Forum. I have been able to go to all of the other forums OK with just the usual time outs and page not available errors, but I could not open the All cobra Talk Forum at all until this morning. I hope that it lasts now.

Ron :)

Off the air for about 20 minutes. Got:

Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)

Brent Mills 05-26-2015 12:18 AM

It was expected...at least for me. Had to do a few things on the server. Thanks for your patience.

That's how I see it: out there, somewhere is a dingbat with just a little more web skills than others and just does that for fun.

I, too, have been having issues connecting to the website over the last few days. It reminds of times in the past when sites had limited bandwidth and refused anymore connections.

I was able to go to other sites, so I don't believe it was on my end.

Really wrist pin? You just joined, you've PM'd me twice already not being able to post as a newbie and asked for extra characters for god knows what in a signature and you've got 6 posts...most of them re learning about the site.

Might I suggest you throttle it back a bit there buddy?

Ride the rails for a while Wrist Pin. Watch and learn. Just don't touch dat 3rd rail bud.!

1ntCobra 05-31-2015 08:21 AM

The site has been working well for me lately. Whatever you did to fix the site back on the 19th seems to have done the trick.

Thank you!!!

Jamo 05-31-2015 01:10 PM

wrist pin...you need to learn how to read.

1. The fact you have few posts, as I've explained, is that not all options are available to you yet...instead of asking, you presumed a problem. As I explained in my PM to you, we filter out spam as much as we can (much of it still comes through), so we don't make full access features available to newbies.

2. You posted threads instead of just going to PMs, expecting us to monitor and find out about folks' personal difficulties on some thread in some area of the site, rather than send a direct PM with a link to the particular post needing attention, again presuming we have nothing better to do than search around the site for whatever it is you're having problems with.

3. Without having been here for any length of time, you found it necessary to comment on the site's performance.

4. You're already annoying me.

Take my advice, back off a bit, seek the help of moderators instead of making life difficult for us. As far as whether to extend your characters in your signature, that is my choice...see nos. 1-4, above. Try me again after you've been here awhile.

One last piece of advice...one you should heed...don't respond.

Thanks and have a nice day.
