Hey Rod,

Do you have a link to this request/order form?

Thanks,
Randy...

Randy, the DMV now has the black plate as an option on their standard list of personalized plates. Before they went into production and they were looking for 7,500 orders to start production, a form had to be mailed into them with a check. Not any more.

And if you're replacing your existing personalized plates:

I received my receipt for the plate order last week in the mail. Prior to that about a month ago I got a call from probably the nicest person I have ever talked to at DMV. She called me to tell me that she had my order and I was in processing and to expect them in July. I had put a little note in with my check and receipt asking that they issue my personalized plates with a zero at the end instead of my current ones which have the letter "O". My plates are my VIN number. This has always messed them up at DMV. She explained that they do not use the number zero on plates and always use the letter "O". Interesting...%/

She also confirmed that they will send them to my local Auto Club for pickup, so no trip to DMV for me.

That's because you can't tell the difference between them (zero and letter "o") and if you're running from the law, then the police will want an accurate license plate to put on those electronic billboards.

No notice, no calls. But they cashed the check way back when.

Kit Coyle 06-28-2015 11:17 AM

I sent the form and a check for $50 to the DMV back in Nov2014 and specified
the Corte Madera DMV as where I wished to pick the plates up. I never got a
response and was never notified other than the fact that the check I sent them
cleared. Then bang, out of the blue, the plates appeared in my mailbox
yesterday...no letter, no receipt, just the plates, the stickers and the new
registration card. I was quite surprised! Very nice job on the plates.

I lived in a beach house at 274 Coast Blvd. back in the 60s and parked that
260 right on the street most of the time! Cruising La Jolla Blvd. and on up
to NAS Miramar was my norm for many years. I did it again this past Nov.
when I came down from the Bay Area to by my ERA from Mike Chase in San
Diego...do you know him?

Nedsel 06-28-2015 01:16 PM

No, have never met Mike. But call next time you're in La Jolla, and we can swap lies over a sandwich, OK?

No one eats bread anymore. Paleo is the way to go. I'm told even In-N-Out burger serves their burgers on just lettuce.

Called "Protein Style"...

Bernica 06-28-2015 07:02 PM

You should get the Book "The In-N-Out Story" and learn all the secret codes! It's a good quick read if you're on a plane and a good story about the Snyder family that started it. They used to own Lions Drag Strip in Irwindale, CA. There is a whole special language that my kids taught me when ordering.:)

Bernica 06-29-2015 09:17 AM

Sorry, I meant the old Irwindale Drag Strip, not Lions....

Two ELP Receipts!

Gotta love the DMV. I applied for vintage plates with HMS1053, my VIN and chassis number. Months ago I received a letter from DMV stating that I couldn't have HMS as that sequence was reserved for commercial trucks, or something like that. So I switched to MFE III.
Last week I received two ELP receipts; one for each!

Bernica 06-29-2015 03:06 PM

"HMS" also equals "Her Majesties Service", which I think is for big British boats.;)

Nice

is the only thing reflective and in the daylight you can't tell. The plates are
made at Folsom Prison from the original 1960s dies. The word "California"

A replica plate for a replica car...now I wonder if I'll get questions about that.
Is that a real Cobra? Is that a real 60's black plate? Are you wearing a wig?
Are your girl friend's tits real? No you moron, I'm a replicant and she is a
blow-up doll.

And that is a sock in my shorts...

lippy 06-29-2015 07:30 PM

Speak of the devil. I received my notice today and got my top choice: SD OILER. Ready in 6-8 weeks.

Bernica 06-29-2015 07:46 PM

A yup. You got the same notice that I did. That means our orders are headed to Folsom or San Quentin to be produced by some fine young men the same way that Shelby used to have some of his frames welded up!;)

cobrasnake 07-05-2015 10:11 PM

Saw a new black/yellow sequential plate on a Cobra yesterday. The plate was six digits but not 3 and 3 - it was an odd configuration that I promptly forgot. The font is very similar to the original but appeared more slender, presumably to allow for 7 digits. While I rubbed the upper right label box searching for an indented "63", I did not feel such an indentation. It was daytime so I can't comment about the reflectorized yellow but the color pretty much matches the original. My guess is that the plate was aluminium, not the original steel.

Randy, I believe Rodney provided the answer but yes you can order the personalized sequence you already have - the form is just a little tricky.

I too received the 8-12 week notice and had initially advised of my preferred DMV office for pick up. Oh what fun, no doubt gonna have to make an appointment to pick up the plates (and given them the old white ones).
