ACademic- I used some fine sand paper on a small handheld sander and used it very lightly only where I was placing the Goodyear adhesives. Very easy to do to. They are of course a little thicker due to being made out of rubber. Have had a lot of compliments thus far. Keep in mind that they are permanent though.

Appreciate the additional inputs.
This thread has me thinking more diligently about what I eventually replace my current Billboards with. The bulbous sidewall, old school look of the BB's is classic, but their longevity (or lack thereof) has me NOT wanting to go back down that path more frequently. It's getting harder and harder to justify buying all that rubber knowing it's going to ozone crack quickly. I don't mind their bias-ply antics or legality issues...never really bothered me and those are personal decisions (as some here will surely disagree with...point noted). But the cons are starting to outweigh the pros when companies like Tredwear offer what I'd call a "90% solution" that is good enough and can be applied to a superior tire (i.e. Avon) that also can be nail hole patched, too. I have also worked with rubber paints and painting rubber to know well enough that's it's painstaking work to properly stencil, get it right AND keep it fresh looking. Maybe I'm just getting too old.

The Avon's are THE tire for our Cobra replicas, IMHO. However, I do not like the look of the huge 4 white letters on the tire and I just can't get comfortable with putting Goodyear letters on an Avon tire. Personally, I think the blackwall Avon's look period correct and in their simplicity they add to the overall good looks of the Cobra. Just me.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you about the large letters. I also don't like the idea of Goodyear lettering on Avons. I'm going to look at smaller letters, but I just may end up keeping them bare.

Yep, thinking blackwall Avon's will work just fine

Contact Tredwear. They sell smaller letters if the size bothers you. I left mine plain for a while but decided to go with the lettering.
