This site needs a new name.

My suggestion: Club Yoyo.....it's always down and up but, mostly down lately.

keezling 07-23-2015 02:10 PM

So it's not just me?

Brent Mills 07-23-2015 02:13 PM

Had a disc problem...Working to resolve. Wish things always were perfect, but...seems the site is about as perfect as I am.

RAIDS and redundancy x2.;)
Just kidding. I know you are on it!!

DanEC 07-23-2015 03:02 PM

Yeah - lots of issues last 3 or 4 days. :(

Murky781 07-23-2015 03:20 PM

Thanks for keeping it going Brent. It can be frustrating for us when it's slow, but it must be a huge PITA for you most of the time. Thanks for all your hard work.

X2, thanks.

So why don't you guys contribute some money to help the site run?

Because the site worked better before voluntary contributions were requested. Yes?!

I think if you guys can't cough up $ to contribute to keeping this excellent resource going smoothly....maybe you shouldn't be complaining?

patrickt 07-24-2015 05:48 AM

... the point being that most of you skin-flints leave more for the waitress that brings you your soup than you do for the guy that runs this site. And then you complain about the quality of service to boot. Get up off your asses and throw him a little dough.:(

It's funny how many people around here complain vociferously, but when you point out that they never even bother to contribute a dime to the site's upkeep, they scurry behind the rafters like rats.

Agreed!
It's not like the Mother Ship is staffed with a crew of 24/7 IT personnel!
Like voting...if you don't vote, then don't complain.
Give and give often!

rodneym 07-24-2015 11:17 AM

Brent,
You host your sites yourself???
How much would it be to have it hosted by one of those fancy server farms?
We're here to help.
Some of us, anyway :(

RodKnock 07-24-2015 11:24 AM

I'll play Devil's Advocate. I belong to several forums, which do not ask for contributions. Sites charge sponsors to support their site with advertising. And they run flawlessly. ClubCobra is the least reliable site that I've encountered. Ever. And I've given in the past.

Instead of asking for contributions, why not go to a membership model, where non-members don't get full and/or complete access, but only partial access? One of the other forums that I belong to does charge a fee per year.

Anyway, it's a free country and a free web, and ClubCobra is free. so why do folks like Patrick berate others who don't give voluntarily? That's not right in my book.

Because some people require public shaming in order for them to step up and do the right thing.

If I'm not completely off the rails on this, what Pat's saying is, "if you don't like the performance of this free service [complain], then how about making a contribution to make it better".

Seems ok to me. Patrick's first comment was as nice and straightforward as can be.
