Cobra hardtop
My first thread as a new member and a cobra enthusiast...also happy to report I completed my payment today on a shipment of a beautiful Excalibur from US, first time owner of the legendary car...I don't have any way to look like Steve McQueen but at least, I'll be sharing the passion of driving this beauty hopefully soon.
Due to two main reasons I am determined I need a beautiful hat for this beautiful car. First, I want to make a lifestyle statement with my driving in the sense this is not a car I am taking out for fun but this is my one and only car for my kind of relatively short commute and we are in a love relationship despite of all its shortcomings without having a second option. Second, I live in a very hot weather environment for a good 6 months of the year so hardtop becomes a necessity...primarily thanks to Richard from North Race Cars I managed to get a car with a solid a/c unit so cooling is sorted provided I have a roof over the top my head!
Made a decent search last 3 weeks and got in touch with Dave Brooks from UK of DB hard tops. My personal taste and searches tell me this is the top my car deserves to have...but then comes the zillions complications of having so many replica manufacturers and the difficulty of finding "the top that will match your car..." Now to this extend, the car I bought is "speculated to be" an Excalibur...because its a longer and wider cut compared to the standard I.e. made "for the taller driver"...I'm a short guy but again, since ill use it on a daily basis, I think it was smart to settle at Excalibur but then, how this "longer and wider" cut will become the home for this nice DB replica roof?
I heard some US based fellow members went ahead despite of facing similar difficulties and managed to "cut and re-fiberglass" their tops to fit their vehicles...I would truly like to know the details of their experiences because this nice top comes with its back and side screens in glass and its not just about fiberglass works...in manufacturing they say there will always be a solution but do you have any smart suggestion (a) before trying to fit the top to the car and (b) in terms of required works....
Many thanks in advance for sharing any idea,
Regards,
Artur
