This Still Pisses Me Off!

Several times I have searched for an answer to a mechanical concern on this forum only to find pages and pages of suggestions for the fix, BUT NO FINAL FIX INFORMATION POSTED BY THE PERSON THAT HAD THE PROBLEM.

Come on, guys, if you can take the time to request help, at least take the time to post the solution. I'm tired of being left up in the air. Help the rest of us out here, will ya?

The latest was by the guy that had backfiring out of one sidepipe. He was given several possible solutions and then he vanished. No word from him since August.

I agree that it's reasonable to expect people seeking solutions to 'close the loop' when they've found and fixed the problem.

I have sent the referenced OP an email, asking him to post an update.

Yup. See it all the time. In and out and not so much as a thank you or follow up on what worked and what didn't! Always frustrated me too...

RodKnock 12-04-2015 10:21 AM

Solution-us Interupt-us. I hate when that happens.

Buzz 12-04-2015 10:47 AM

Me too

Unfortunately that seems to be the norm in many places. I too like to see what the solution to the problems was if for no other reason so I would have an idea if anyone else has a similar problem.

What's their address, phone number, email address? Can't seem to locate their location.

Maybe they have not fixed the problem and they find no need to go back to the place that gave them no useful advise? Just say'in.

joyridin' 12-04-2015 01:03 PM

Most of those types of posters are 1-3 hitters anyhow. They write the problem, which is post #1, they tell us they will look into the questions we ask, that is post #2. Post #3 is an answer to 1 or 2 of the questions, then they disappear forever.

Sometimes you can skip the second post and go right to the 3rd post.

Bernica 12-04-2015 01:15 PM

Some get it, some don't....

I see a lot of folks jump in here to help and it's nice to see some feedback on their efforts.

We all learn from each other here, but not so much if we are simple vending machines that don't charge you a dime for advice.

Some folks are really good at follow up, some just hit and run.

1795 12-04-2015 01:27 PM

It still would be nice if people would comment back on whether the advice was correct or if there was another solution. Having the loop closed helps us neophytes who are trying to fix a problem by teaching us what to look for and possible solutions. As many of these threads will show, the possible solutions offered tend to be quite varied and without closure it is difficult to rule-out possible causes for a problem and solutions to the problem.

It is not so much about the ego of people offering possible solutions (well, not for most of those people ;)), but rather as an educational training for others.

I like to see nice, lengthy tutorials that are replete with detailed photographs and how-to instructions. Unfortunately, a lot of the guys around here are too lazy to get off their fat asses and actually write something that is clear, cogent, well-organized, and helpful.

I think people are afraid to go to that level of accuracy and detail for a reason - after reading your "LED Upgrade to Rear Rectangular Lights" we saw even a clear, cogent, well-organized tutorial will still suck the OP into 9 more pages of explanation and troubleshooting :)

Bernica 12-04-2015 03:09 PM

If not us, then who?
To me, the detail and thorough responses of some of our members are priceless and not something you can get at a NAPA store! Unless I'm wrong this site is all about continuing the legacy. I don't care what car you have.
OK, I'm done.
