66gtk - Hillbank in Orange CA has a new sliver/black turn key MKII listed in Hemmings for $99,950 and on their web site for $95,350. It's been listed quite a number of months and is great looking but for the valve covers. Maybe that's just me. Their rollers I've "seen" have been in the upper half of $70,000 depending on factory options (like a top, door pockets, under car exhaust, etc.).
I see FIA replicas for sale from time to time on Cobra Country but no slab side replicas. Why is that - lack of demand or do owners just keep them? I wonder how many ERA is making? Want to buy an ERA slab but retirement looms so first I'd like some clue as to potential depreciation.

Yes,
The people who purchase "slabsides" #still dislike that term but now almost generic like "Kleenex"# tend to be long term aspiration buyers as opposed to many 427 buyers who discover that the car is not what they expected, it is a short term toy that is sold to move on to the next thrill, etc. The buyers we have dealt with knew what the were getting and what they wanted.
You can acquire a complete Superformance MK II 289 with a nice engine for less than 90K built out by a shop that has experience in doing so #do not discount "know-how" in a build out. Some shops have no idea of what it takes to PROPERLY install and fettle the chassis so they bolt 'er up and let 'er go!#
I would suggest that depreciation will be minimal as the supply of ready-to drive cars is small so the market is never flooded with resale units.

Buy a slabside and enjoy it. Demand has likely increased for them since ERA and Superformance have gotten into the market with their beautiful offerings. Although demand will ebb and flow, over time, I think demand for the 427 will always be greater since it was the last iteration of the Cobra before going out of production in 1967-1968 or whatever. And the general population probably looks at the slabside as a cute little MG or Jaguar.

Truth be told,I was planning a 289 build as I have a fondness for street roadsters,and an extreme love of wire wheels. Because I like the original look and the 289 allows more choice with interior colors,rather than just black on the 427. Original plan called for dark blue,tan interior,luggage rack chrome wire wheels and PAXTON supercharger. Because I already had a 427,428 scj,a couple of top loaders and an XKE rear,I decided on another 427 car and that's why all the effort to build a narrow hip 427 . Slabside on steroids....!

ERA makes a beautiful slab side that is very light and very quick.
i refuse to go side by side with my wife at a stoplight because she has no fear, ( but she does have skinny tires) and drives her car hard. She uses it as a daily driver and loves it.[IMG][IMG]  [/IMG][/IMG]

I can't speak for ERA and Kirkham but SPF/Shelby use Dayton Wires. There are repop Dunlops available but we have heard stories of quality issues. Of course you can always upgrade to Borranis!

The standard wheel on a Kirkham 289 is a standard Trigo Halibrand-like wheel. The Kirkham's charge $2,000 extra for wire wheels. I don't know about today, as I write, but Kirkham has previously supplied Dayton's as their optional wheels on 289 slabsides.
I've never been a big fan personally. I'd probably look for some kidney beans, because they're high in fiber, high in protein, high in potassium and high in iron (among other vitamins and minerals).
