ford cobra with ccx-number
hi, i am new in this forum and opting for a 289 cobra
i have an offer of a 289 "ford" cobra with a ccx chassis number, the seller told me that ford built three prototypes by their own to continuate the cobra-production after financial problems at shelby's, these three cars are with ccx numbers, the building year is 1968 (?), ... true or false..? :) |
In a word....FALSE!!! This is a "story" to sell a car. Shelby did not have financial difficulties....Ford would have just sent more cash!
The "CCX" chassis numbers were used by Contemporary on their chassis. |
thank you mark for the immediate reaction
the number is ccx 553XX, so this might be a contemporary classics 289 replica...?? the german registration is 1968 and it has an aluminium body..... |
I'm not aware of Contemporary building any alloy bodied 289 replicas, but I suppose anything is possible - others here will know. Are you sure the prefix is CCX and not COX? If it is COX, then it might be a very valuable AC built Cobra and 1968 would be a legitimate production year. If it is indeed a CCX, then the registration year is falsified as Contemporary didn't exist until the 80's / 90's.
|
CCX is indeed Contemporary
All their numbers started as CCX3-3XXX they may have used a CCX3-2XXX for the 289? Dunno...... CCX frames were capable of conversion to alloy but lots of work and of course would not pre-date 1980. COX = Valuable..... Depends on the $ing as to what you should do. If its a car that is COX and can get FIA papers it has 6 figure value. If it is a CCX you may want someone to look at it to validate what you have. |
i saw a photo of the the type badge ("shelby"badge, not "ac"badge) and of the german registration title, both with ccx and not cox, if cox i would not have asked :)

Do you have a picture?

Also, post the full CCX VIN and I'll check to see if I have it in my database. The rest of what you have posted is false information, as Ford had nothing to do with Contemporary and vice versa. Finally, are you sure the body is aluminum, and you are not just looking at the aluminum panels in the trunk and engine compartment? Have you actually laid hands on the car (IE: have you seen the car in person)? |
AC COBRA cobra ford cobra 289 original Used - the parking
Cobra Andere 427 289 ā DE-50670 Köln Allemagne Cobra 427 AC 5,7 V8 Ltr. H-Kennz. ā DE-59609 Anröchte Allemagne These are all listed in Germany as 1968's, although the middle one is or was in Florida, and discussed here, not in a flattering way I might add :D None of them are originals, or even close. |
The car can't be a legit COX since they never had a VIN starting with 553XX. So that idea is kaput.

Pics will help. The front, rear, sides, cockpit, engine compartment, chassis underside showing frame and suspension, and as mentioned the VIN tag.
|
The first link Bill attached is the car.
VIN tag is in the picture rotation. At $250,000US it is expensive and also suggesting its a KMS with all the billet http://www.automobile.fr/Voiture/x/v...17500947.html# |
yes, that is the car !
too cheap for an original, too expensive for a recreation? contemporary classic with kirkham body? .... but seems well crafted and has a german historic title, quite important because no kms, superformance or shelby csx will get that title in germany nowadays |

Not a CCX, not a CSX, but it is a nice Kirkham with a made up VIN number |
I need to start exporting Cobras to Europe...
|
does kirkham build 289 aluminium bodys with flared fenders? only seen slabside or 289 fia bodys....

KMS does make the Lemans type flares.
However so can an alloy guy as a retrofit. Patrick, come on CCX is a nice car.... Might be because CCX makes exporting easier as they were mostly titled from 25+years ago..... |
