Latest EPA Proposal

Have you guys seen this? Like I said before, slippery slope!
Larry

The EPA wants to make it illegal to modify your car for racing

1795 02-10-2016 12:52 PM

I just saw this posted on one of the race sites that I being to. Something that I think we should put our resources behind to ensure that it does not happen. Will change the landscape of racing for sure.

Here is a link that contains a link to a petition to hopefully stop this craziness. The link to the petition is at the top of the page.

I voted when I saw it last night. Every car guy should sign that petition and sign up for a free SAN membership to stay abreast of foolish things like this.

DanEC 02-10-2016 04:07 PM

I signed today. EPA tried to sneak it through in a 600 page document. The public comment period is already closed so they are writing the final rule. Sign the White House petition and write your Congressman to stop this liberal subterfuge.

One of the lines of proposal that scares me is:

"Finally, EPA is proposing to require that rebuilt engines installed in new
incomplete vehicles meet the emission standards applicable in the year of assembly, including all
applicable standards for criteria pollutants."

I hate to turn this thread into a political debate, but unfortunately this act is simply typical of the current administration. It decided long ago that it would do anything it wanted, just by bypassing Congress and creating regulations for anything it wanted. The saddest part is that Congress is unwilling to challenge even the smallest of these violations of our constitution.

I just signed it. That is an insane idea just as most of the crap from politicians is any more. It would destroy all but professional racing.

Ron

Signed

kevins2 02-11-2016 09:15 AM

I just signed it. Took only about 10 seconds...

Rjw289 02-11-2016 12:05 PM

Just signed.

Thanks guys! I'm sharing it with other car guys I know as well!

Signed and forwarded to others.

This is completely contrary to other recent legislation that encourages and supports our great hobby.

I think the EPA is one of the best job killer organizations ever created by our country. All the politicians talk about creating jobs but most of their actions have the opposite impact.

Murky781 02-11-2016 05:00 PM

Summit Racing sent out an alert and link to the petition today. Seems the EPA has pissed off a lot of folks! Signed and passed on.

SteelCobra 02-11-2016 06:17 PM

Thank you for the update. I've signed, and forwarded the link to a few folks as well!

Ron61 02-12-2016 02:20 AM

Same here. I think the people should write a counter proposal and send it to the EPA and their Senators with about 10,000 signatures. The EPA is nothing but a bureaucratic mess like the rest of our Govt.

anybody ever heard of an outfit called the Sierra Club? They are a bunch of Eco-nazis who support the EPA. This sounds like something they would propose.

Ron61 02-12-2016 05:49 AM

Dan,

I have heard of them and they are not well liked around here.

I'm glad people spend tax dollars to go after insignificant hobbyists. I suppose we are just an easy target? Signed

Yes and having WAY to much phucking fun!

keezling 02-12-2016 01:58 PM

I don't think they know who they're screwing with. Last time they tried this in the '70's I wasn't above installing a "ringer" engine to pass inspection and putting the real engine back in when I got home or having a complete exhaust system which could be installed quickly for a fix it ticket. How can they keep track of 2,000,000+ cars all the time? Answer, they CAN'T! Anybody for a flat head powered Cobra?
