Looks great! Kudos to a job well done.

My only question is if Treadwear make the lettering in an off-white colour? It's just my opinion, but I find these letters too bright/clean and 'new' looking. An off white would help with that I feel.

Cheers,
Sime

Excellent tips! Did you do anything with the landscape of the tire before applying the letters? Sand down ridges or anything?

I used a razor blade to remove any raised areas but a palm sander might have been the smarter choice. Prep wise you really need to clean and de-grease the tires....especially if not new. I then used acetone and a green brillo pad to remove any hidden oil or grime and it slightly scuffed the application area. I then followed the the instructions by using alcohol to clean the application area and rear of the letter prior to putting on the glue before gluing it down. I recommend using a heat gun or hair dryer to evaporate the alcohol on the letter and tire completely.

After awhile on the road the "bright" goes away and then they look just right!

Two years ago I made the drawings for the Avon size and sent them to Treadwear and told them they can keep the drawing...;)

I though about cutting/spacing my O, D, R, As to give it a more authentic look but at the end I left them one piece. Yours look really good with the breaks... More authentic looking in my opinion.

ASO544 and MCoop did you guys use 2" letters for both the "Good Year" and the "Eagle"?
I'm going to order a set and want it right.

Thanks for your help!
Stu.

ASO544 03-08-2016 03:21 AM

The "EAGLE" is a smaller font just like it is on real Billboard Tires. I used their 2" kit which comes with the 2" GOOD YEAR and a slightly smaller EAGLE. I ordered 4 sets but it came in a single 4 pack.

Sawdust 03-08-2016 04:35 AM

Great, thanks! I just wanted to make sure the "Eagle" wasn't 1.5"

That's great to know Pete. I'm still thinking I might spray paint the logo on....that way I can dial in the white, as well as maybe create a distressed look.

Would you be able to email me the file in an *eps or *ai format if possible please? paintwerks@optusnet.com.au

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Sime

I can't decide if you are just sarcastic, or an arrogant prick.

ASO544 03-11-2016 08:31 AM

Lol....those purist can run bias ply tires and throw rocks at their cars fenders all day long..... Not me!!! I like the look but want the radial tire so if it offends or annoys someone so be it.

Vintage Motosports has a car listed that they used the Treadware Letters in a set of Mickey Thompson STs. I can't really tell but they may have used the 2.25" letters. They of course did an awesome job.

Bumping this thread.
If lettering Good Year on Avon's, either with the tire paint or the glued on letters, does it matter if the rubber is off or mounted?

I think I'm going to go the unmounted painted on route and would appreciate any tips.
