when guys start thinking "I hope the wife likes it..." it's never good

Well, that's simply not true. My wife loves riding in the car and goes with me quite often. My two grown kids as well. I'm solo probably no more than 25% of the time and that's for almost 10,000 miles in the past two seasons. Guys with cobras that I sometimes get together with frequently have passengers, including wives, come along.

sir,
what's your mileage on your Kirkham? do you share with family? wife & family ride or drive? Pet friendly?

I own a Cobra. I drive it and I give people rides. Whether they're pet friendly is a dumb question. See Blacklemming's response above. There's a passenger seat and you can strap a pet in there, if you wanted.

NYG, don't give advice to a potential Cobra owner, when you have never owned one. And likely have never driven one.

RodKnock 03-07-2016 01:09 PM

Every time NYG gives Cobra advice it reminds me of a famous press conference given by the then coach of the New Orleans Saints, Jim Mora, Sr.:

I'm polluting threads? Just stop posting stupid advice, like your above comments, to a potential new Cobra owner about a car you've never driven let alone owned. And have no intention of ever buying.

Are they pet friendly? Seriously that's your concern when buying a Cobra? Really?

BTW, how many bugs have you gotten in your mouth while driving the Cobra? I have gotten zero bugs in my mouth. And who drives with their mouth open anyway? **)

NYG is afraid his pet gerbil will crawl up the exhaust pipe....or some other orifice!

IMHO...To me at least, giving advise to folks that come and visit here with honest and sincere questions about how to buy their first car, engine or whatever that may cost more than any other purchase seems to me to require some respectful and thought-out advice and not a bunch of silly-ass bull****!

Ok, I'm done

Some of us do indeed let our pets in to our Cobras.

You forgot the gratuitous shot of your hand(s) or now that it's being publicly debated lately, are pics of your hands revealing too much info about you?

NYG, exactly what have you ever contributed to this or any other thread of substance.?

Donunder 03-08-2016 12:40 AM

Strange isn't it?

Not so long ago we had a newbie (Mudbrick) asking the same questions regarding a suitable car over on the Australian forum. In no time the thread had degenerated into a poisonous exchange for reasons that escape me.

Luckily we don't have our own version of NYG but even so the vitriol was very unpleasant, to the point that if I'd been the newbie making polite and pertinent inquiries, I'd have asked myself if I really wanted to be associated with such an argumentative bunch running off very short fuses.

I remember once when Jamo pulled us into line over another "lively" debate and there arose some sort of unspoken agreement among us that the goose making the unwanted comments would simply be ignored. These types live for the unrest they cause and if their idiocy is ignored they run out of fuel and the fire goes out.

I'd suggest the same approach here. NYG for all intents and purposes just ceases to exist. It's hard not to crack back at some oaf's blathering but trust me, it works. And just so guys like TN Shelby Cobra don't blow a gasket over the matter, it's very easy to go to your User CP/Edit options/Settings and Options/Edit ignore list. Just enter the name of the person you want to ignore and never again will you be irritated by his comments. Problem solved!

Now lets get back to trying to help Jordanm get himself into something he'll have fun with for a long time.

Ahem. Yes, where were we before the venom started spewing? Oh, a Cobra that fits the OP. Well, I am 5'-7", 160 lbs, so I certainly fit comfortably in my Backdraft. But, extrapolating to a driver taller than, say, 6'-2" and well above 200 lbs with commensurately sized feet, I think a BDR would require extensive customization in order achieve a fit and even that would likely be less than ideal. As far as driveability, the effort to turn the steering wheel at no or low speed without power steering is an issue as is the stiffness of the clutch pedal. A mod motor with EFI would be a definite aid. I hope that others may have some experiences that are constructive on these issues as you seem to be well aware of the need to resolve them before proceeding with a purchase.

An easier way to add someone to your 'Ignore List':
  1. Right click on User name (NewYorkGuy) in message, then click 'View Public Profile'
  2. Click on 'User Lists' => 'Add to Ignore List'
  3. The next page is the 'Confirm User List Modification', showing 'Are you sure you want to add NewYorkGuy to your ignore list?' Click 'Yes' to add to your ignore list.

People like NYG are trolls seeking attention, ignore them and they'll soon tire of the game they're playing. No need to get in a lather over such mindless blather.

Clutch pressure is directly linked to choice of pressure plate and the size of the clutch master (if hydraulic). I have seen cars with nasty clutch effort and ones that were very drivable in an everyday situation.

Of course if you have a 700 HP monster motor you need a clutch that can hook it up.....a 450 HP cruiser not so much. We have had good results with McLeod units that are reasonable on effort and work well.
