Oh, the pain! Even knocked the LF tire off its wheel!

1795 03-21-2016 12:28 PM

Looks like he was going way too fast for his line and tried to slow down, but way too late. Did not really attempt to take the corner, I think that he was hoping to slow down and then take the grass and get back on the track? What he did not realize is that once you get on the grass you starting picking up speed, as the grass is not a very effective braking material. He would have been better off taking a controlled spin and stopping on the track.

That car will need a bit of repair work, but is fixable, especially given the cars pre-race value.

Bernica 03-21-2016 12:33 PM

No doubt it can and will be fixed. Can anyone identify the car? CSX number?

vector1 03-22-2016 01:06 PM

Lapse in concentration can be a real pisser!

Trevor Legate 03-22-2016 03:54 PM

CSX number? Really...? :)

Sorry if I was out of bounds there. I realize it could have been an AC and not a CSX. I jumped to conclusions. My bad.
Still curious what car it was though...

Trevor Legate 03-23-2016 02:35 AM

Sorry, I should have said that there's little doubt it had a CSX (or COB/COX) number attached some where under the hood, but that doesn't mean that the car in the video originated from Thames Ditton circa 1964. After a hard shunt like that, it may be more cost-effective to order another from the same place that one originated.

Also worth noting that there were two (yes - two!) Daytona-shaped automobiles racing at the same meeting where they don't permit replicas to race. Funny old world

Replicas at Goodwood!.... Lions and tigers and bears, OH MY! And there certainly were, without a doubt, NO Superformance GT40s on that grid.

"There's no betting at Bushwood!!!!"

And as I stated on another thread, those beautiful Jag XKSS lightweights being recreated AT JAGUAR are being denied by Goodwood because they are considered "replicas". Yes, a funny world...

Trevor Legate 03-23-2016 01:40 PM

Nitpicking I know, but point of order: not XKSS but E-type.

However, the rumor mill thinks the XKSS may yet resurface, although they were never raced in the day (he said, waiting to be corrected! Not raced in the UK anyhoo)

And certainly not a single Superformance GT40! No siree - nor any Gelscoe versions, nope. Thirty ge-uine GT40s or my name ain't Verity Muppeteer.

I always find it highly amusing that the race commentary has to gloss over the fact that (some of) the cars were built last week :) But business is business.....

Nope Trevor, every car on that grid was extant in 1966. Absolutely, positively. I guarantee that every molecule of iron and aluminium was around in 1966. Of course they may have been around a beer can or some bauxite in the ground, but they existed! They just hadn't been arranged as a "GT40" yet..............

Well, I didn't realize we were going all the way back to the Periodic Table!

If a car is going to end up as bent as this one - or worse - I don't mind one little bit that the race car is a copy with the original resting safely at home.

spf645 03-24-2016 03:23 AM

At what point is the term (damage, salvage, history) on a car title allowed to be changed to ( race history). So the value of said vehicle will increase ? And we all know ( race ) means damage somewhere in said vehicles history. I drive all night, so such a silly question is easy for me to think up.

If organizers want full grids they will need to make allowances for replica/continuation cars to run. I have no problem with someone not wanting to risk an XX-million dollar car and racing a duplicate. Just don't wiz on us and tell us it's the gentle Spring rain.

Totally agree. While I understand there are many folks out there that can afford an $XX-million car and want to have it continue to be used for its intended purpose, the risk vs reward issue has got to kick in. I would have no problem either with such an owner putting an accurate representation on the grid and leaving the $$ car at home. But there are the purists....

Replicas are not fair to paying dpectators

Allowing replicas to race alongside originals are a slap in the face to someone who pays $60 or so to come to a vintage race. They expect to see real cars built in the original era. I remember I went to a historic race in Chicago where the Ferrari P4 racing was built on a Boxer or some such. I am happy if Goodwood is locking out Jag's new/old style lightweights. Shelby got hounded by the DMV in Calif. for resurrecting some old chassis numbers --completing cars that had been assigned chassis numbers in the Sixties--and now here's Jaguar doing it out in the open and (almost) getting away with it. If Jag had succeeded, I can see Mercedes building more 300SLRs, Ferrari building more P3/4's--whatever car there's a customer for
