But as I understand it, on cars such as ours that use a trailer relay to run the brake and signal lights on one wire lead, we would have to re-wire to separate the circuits to use his lights. But - a couple good options now besides those pesky LED replacement bulbs. |

You're right, but it's very simple and straightforward. The Kirkham uses the same setup, so you simply remove the connection from the brake light switch that goes to earth and run a wire (available with the lights) from that connection to the brake light wire (green/purple) on the light units and you're done. OK - that sounds simple enough that I could even manage it. The yellow signal lights would be kind of cool - probably would be very noticeable by being a little different.

Any other choices, besides the ones from England ? |
Found them on ebay from "Pirate MFG", @ $99.00 for the pair. Anyone have any experience with this seller/product? Price ?

Paul : thanks for that info. Since I have no idea what the exchange rate happens to be, could you tell me the price in USD ?
Thanks, Ted |
Paul,
Are the lenses on these the same as a stock lens? I have stock lens, but very disappointed with the brightness, even after installing (4) "1157-PCB-x36: 36-LED 1157 PCB Lamp 1157-PCB-R36-WV: Red 100 Degree" units. www.superbrightleds.com http://cdn4.superbrightleds.com/timt...pg&trim=1&zc=1 My real question is, do I need the whole new units you pictured, or just the LED pads w/yellow turn signals? Do they really work significantly better? Thanks |

They use UK supplied lenses with the appropriate markings on them. The US supplied lenses as originally fitted to my Kirkham seem to be a darker red and block more of the light. The new units are very clear and bright and the brake light is clear to see, as is the indicator, even with the brake lights on. They're massively better than the original bulb units and also much better than any other LED units I've seen. These were designed from the ground up specifically for Cobras and not just LED replacement bulbs. Paul |

The components for the light boards alone cost more than the other lights cost. Paul |
Any videos of what the lights look like in-operation?
Are they separate top&bottom? Sounds like their lenses are superior (?) thanks |
Hi,
I'll try to take a video and post it up, but there are some pictures at the start of this thread. The lens is a one piece red moulding as per original, but instead of the lower half only being a reflector, it is now the location for the tail and brake light. The top half is used for the turn signal and uses super bright yellow LEDs that still shine bright amber even through the red lens. The super bright yellow LEDs can generate some heat, so the circuit board is aluminium to act as a heat sink and there is heat protection circuitry built in that will reduce the power during extended use e.g. if the hazard are used for a long time, to prevent them over heating. Having followed other Cobras with the L542 rear lights on long continental tours in all conditions, it is pretty alarming at how poor the original rear lights are, especially when stationary waiting to turn across oncoming traffic, the risk of another car smashing into the rear is significantly increased I believe. I wanted some new lights that retained the original look, but very significantly improved the light output and importantly, gave a yellow turn signal, so I contracted an automotive niche specialist to design the specifics and I'm delighted with the result. Thanks Paul. Now I have to explain to the wife why I bought $300 tail lights for a car I don't even have yet :)

:LOL::LOL:
Tell her that her safety is at the forefront of your mind and that these lights are to help protect her while she is in the car with you. ;) :3DSMILE: Don't forget to use the L542cobra discount code. Paul |

I did indeed use the code. Honestly what you said is more or less the truth. Seems like an easy addition in the name of safety for these deathtraps.
Now to contradict that. Quote:
Joking aside, and I hope you are sitting down, not only will there not be two roll bars, but there won't even be one :eek: |
