DOT-Legal Rectangular tail-lights
[ame]https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012YNM58U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1[/ame]
These are quite bright, although they look a little weird because of the pattern of locally bright LEDs. The entire lens area (normal top and "reflector" bottom is lit. I was worried that they wouldn't be compatible with a normal flasher and the ERA trailer relay, but they seem to work fine. If you have an unforgiving inspector that demands an SAE DOT number on the lens, these get my approval. |
I tried converting over to the LED bulb replacement did not work I guess I could have changed the flasher. Is the price shown for these tail lights for one light?
|
It says 2 for $54.91. Seems cheap. Maybe the ad means there are two available at $54.91 (each). I may buy a couple for my yard trailer too.
Thanks Bob |
The price is for each. Still reasonable. I trial-installed the lights in one of our cars and the signal/brake lights worked.

Just ordered a set - let's see how good they are.

Bob, do they use the same type of ferrule connectors at the lights as the standard lights ERA supplies?

Thanks Bob - I'll probably give them a try since I couldn't get LED replacement bulbs to work for some reason.
Edit - Ordered two today, along with an assortment of bullet connectors. One shipped - one back ordered. Lets see what happens. |
Received the first one today. UPS is delivering them separately and wants a signature to leave them at the door so it's a drawn out ordeal. They refused to leave the first one yesterday without a signature so I signed the form to leave it at the door. They left that one today but he had the second one for first delivery attempt today and he couldn't leave it based on the signature for the first one. What a crazy company. Should have the other tomorrow.
They certainly look like a quality light - hope to install them this weekend. |
The white wire is a ground. I would connect it to a light stud with an eye. By the way, my lights didn't come with nuts. The thread is not the same as the Lucas studs. They are 8-36.
|
Yes - being an electrical idiot it threw me when I saw the 3 wires but then I read the white is a ground lead (white - who would have figured that would be ground) and figured I just needed to put a ring terminal on it like you noted and secure it and the harness ground on the mounting stud.
My first one came with nuts but I just received the second one today and I haven't unpacked it yet. I really like the substantial gasket that comes with them since I was always fighting the one on my original lights when trying to install them. Keeping my fingers crossed since my luck with LEDs has been pretty spotty. |
One small challenge is drilling two new holes to mount the lights as the studs are centrally mounted on these instead of staggered like the originals.
|
Success - they work fine on my car and that's saying something as I unsuccessfully spent days trying to get LED bulbs to work in it.
Very bright - typical new car-like LED star wars effect but that's just a small issue for better visibility. |
These are really nice tail light units that provide a separate yellow turn signal.
https://www.spiyda.com/magento/index...board-115.html The brake and tail light is moved to the lower half of the lens behind the reflector and the top half is a dedicated turn signal, which shines bright yellow through the red lens. These lights will work on 3-wire or 4-wire (including earth) setups. The above light fittings will convert your existing lights, but if you want the complete light units, you need these: https://www.spiyda.com/magento/index...amber-red.html This is the new tail light: http://www.cobraclub.com/gallery/dat..._09_48_Pro.jpg And this is the tail light and turn signal: http://www.cobraclub.com/gallery/dat..._10_31_Pro.jpg The price shown is for a pair, but if you use discount code "L542cobra" you will get a £20 discount off the listed price. These are really nice quality units using aluminium circuit boards to act as heat sinks for the super bright yellow turn signals, which will ensure long bulb life, but spares are available from the same place if you ever need one. I have them on my Kirkham as do many of my Cobra friends and the difference is remarkable and a real safety aid in my view. Paul |

The lenses supplied with the complete units probably don't as they're copies of the original Lucas L542 lenses. From memory, I think they have a BS number on them.

I got them and tried them out, they work great and unlike other LED lenses they are not purely directional. You can see the light from different angles too. It lights up the whole light and the brake/stop light is very bright. Thanks again for the find strictlypersonl!! |
