Wheel Color Opinions

Trying to decide to plastidip wheels a flat black instead of powdercoating which is permanent versus the "normal" look of which they are now? Picture provided is a photoshop picture.

I always do black wheels. Plasti dip looks cheap. Powder coat cost me $250 for all 4 wheels.

The black looks good with your color combo and black roll bar and pipes. I would powder coat or just spray them. I don't think the plasti-dip will stay on very long

I'd prefer some contrast. And I'd just paint them.

Black looks great and hides brake dust. I've had plastidip on for years with no issues. Tire changing can knock a little of the rim edge, which is easily fixed with a shot of spray. I use the standard flat black thats stocked in many hardware stores.

I've plastidipped my rims flat black. Don't do that if your rims were already painted!! The solvent (Toluene, Xylene) will destroy the paint and you just can get rid of the Dip via a chemical process. Sandblasting will take hours! If your rims are bare metal, no problem and the Dip will last for very long, no issues!

Ive run black for a number of years. Never regretted it. SemiGloss powder coated. I've seen cars with Flat & Gloss. All look nice. Choose your poison

The best look is flat black with 20% clear so it has some UV protectant and won't turn chalky white like just flat will do. I never wash mine I just let the brake dust collect. Looks very vintage and racey.

It was never a question about going for gloss black on my wheels. However, I would never powdercoat them. Have heard about too many issues with cracking/metal fatigue following powdercoating. I am a spraypainter so it was no issue to spray mine. Howevever even if I wasn't a painter, I would never powdercoat them.

If the powercoater uses a low enough temp to cure there is no problem with powder coating. All new wheels are aluminum and they are all powder coated from the factory.

I know it isn't a Cobra, but the flat black plasti-dip has held up really well on my Land Cruiser. And those wheels have had the holy crap beat out of them.
