sidepipe coating

Any suggestions on a good heat resistant paint for sidepipe coatings other than the "high temp" junk rattle cans sold at autozone or advance auto?

I've thought about ceramic and maybe having them chromed. But is there any really good high temp paint out there that wont bubble up ? Thanks,

If applied correctly, VHT-type paints won't bubble, but they do chalk and wear off in time. We recommend re-coating about every year. They have the same loss of effectiveness problem as the ceramics below.

Ceramic coating is permanent but can stain from external contamination. If the ceramic coating is on a "housing" that encases a standard bullet muffler, they tend to get louder over time because the packing loses its effectiveness.

Stainless exhausts tend to have baffles, and should last forever, but typically will yellow or blue in the hottest areas. Most of the time, you can polish that out, but the discoloration will return eventually.

+1 for BBQ paint. I hope you aren't trying to go white as there is no durable solution anymore with even ceramics as they will yellow.

Mine have been high temp powdercoated for years. The high temp powdercoating is good for 1200 degrees. Your pipes are around 200-300 degrees where they make the bend in front. You can get them done for about $75/pair. Look great, doesn't fade, and doesn't come off. They are black.

I can't believe people are still using a rattle can.

i'm a fan of the VHT also, i use the flat black high heat, then a very light coat of the 2000 deg clear satin......about once a year i repaint, no real prep just scrub with a brush then repaint

I use CeraKote on my exhaust. The same coating applied to firearms.

I have found an awesome paint if you want white! No discolor, no pealing and they look great!

Yes, that is the post. Paint has been on months with no pealing or discoloring! You must bake it on though for it to work!

Your info is def welcome Phil. I'm not real fond of my Polished SS system.
For my headers and side pipes (hand carry to the shop) in White Ceramic:
JetHot in OK City $780, and local DFW area shops $580-800.
2-3 shops didn't do white.

Had the same issue here in Cols. No one wants to touch white and I have heard Cerakote and other coatings are expensive and don't last. All I do when they get dirty is tape the car off and spray another coat on. The primer and first coat if baked, stays on. I was so surprised it worked, I bought like 10 cans of the stuff and have them in the garage. I love the white look and its out of an aerosol can!
