Currently am planning on running with just the mesh screens (tea strainers) I may revisit that at some point. Right now I’m just trying to get the car running. Still have electrical issues. Put my new pertronix stock look distributor in last night, replaced all the plug wires and tried to start her up this morning before work. No spark whatsoever, so will be chasing electrical gremlins this evening. The frustrating part is that with exception of replacing one distributor with another I didn’t mess with any electrical stuff but now that’s my issue. Aghhhhhhhhh!!

I would like to see a photo of the new distributor installed. Mine is a different motor of course but I am wondering if the "mallory" small one will clear not just the carb body but the air cleaner.

Some people say you need to run more filter than just a tea screen? I don't know what Jim would say about that.

Jim says the tea strainers are just fine, and that anything more than that is only going to impede good air flow. I will take a pic of my distributor setup and post it this afternoon. I ended up going with a pertronix stock look cast unit since it is a bit smaller than the flamethrower II setup I had before.

Best regards,
Byron

Here are the photos I took, sorry it took me a bit to get them posted, was busy trying to tune my new carbs. https://s26.postimg.org/anqj0u2vt/IMG_0210.jpghttps://s26.postimg.org/4o2rx6i3d/IMG_0211.jpg

Quick update. After a couple of weeks of work and chasing electrical gremlins finally got the car running yesterday. Got it to idle, got the timing set. Car runs great above 3000 rpm but like crap from 1700 to 3000. By crap I mean stutters, pops and throws wonderful flames of the exhaust. I believe I am running lean and have already turned the idle mixture screws out past the recommended 7/8 to 1 turn to help the problem. Jim is sending me a richer idle jet tomorrow so hopefully that will get me where I need to be. As far as everything else goes. I have no manifold Coolant or fuel leaks so super happy about that.

Best regards
Byron

Byron,

You are getting there. It's nice to be able to cross some things off the list. I am waiting for some warmer weather early this coming week to start to work on a couple of projects with the car. It is snowing and windy today and that unheated barn is not looking so attractive to be working in. Have a nice Thanksgiving.

Well, she is all done. Got my comp covers back from Nick Acton and have everything up and running. Still a little fine tuning to accomplish. Hopefully next week I will be able to get the car to a local tuning shop that runs webers on a few of its race cars for some Dyno tuning with an AFR setup.
I learned a lot with the install and realize I still have much to learn. I was very happy that my coolant bypass and heater supply system I designed appears to be working well (I will post details in the near future) and that I didn't mess anything major up on my car.

Happy Motoring
