Default Looking for 289 FIA/USRRC replica...

I have a local friend who is looking for a nice 289 FIA or USRRC replica in the $35,000.00 to $40,000.00 range.

Anyone out there have one they are selling or know of one available?

Thanks.

Factory Five has their new FIA car out if he wants to build one. It's actually pretty nice.

40K is the buy for that white Contemporary 289FIA, but it is more of a race car than a street car......At that price point, a nice Unique could also be had as I see them in the 35-38K on and off throughout the year. 48-55K can get you a nice ERA 289FIA, so perhaps talk him in to raising his budget a little more.

There is a Unique 289 in classifieds now. Looks like you would have to add a speedo to it.

gt40gordy's profile shows he is in Michigan, so maybe that is where the car is located. You could shoot him a PM for more info.

I am selling my brother's replica 1966 Cobra 289 FIA style body built by NAF. It is very nice and have all the specifics on it if you're interested. Also have numerous pictures of the car. You may e-mail me at wdapuzzo@cox.net
Thanks, Bill

Evan,

I don't know what his family is going to do with it but Rick Parker had a really nice Cobra like your friend is looking for and he built it from scratch himself. I looked at it when he came up to see me and he did a fantastic job, right down to making the valve covers and headers himself.

Ron

I am new to Club Cobra and am the guy Evan is referring to. Thanx in advance for the responses....

A little about myself. I am a die hard Ford guy. My first car was a 1966 Mustang Convertible. Since then I have had an 86 GT, 68 Cougar, 91 GT, 67 Cougar, 69 Cougar, and 2012 Boss 302. I still have the 67 Cougar and the Boss is my driver. I just sold the 69 to make room for the Cobra. It will be on its way to Germany as soon as the funds clear (hopefully by next week).

I have wanted a Cobra for the last 30 years and I am finally doing something about it. I am also realizing that I may not be able to afford to build a car myself (this was my original plan). I am looking for a Small Block Cobra, which is why I am leaning towards a 289 FIA. I have visited the ERA factory in CT and saw a Factory 5 in upstate NY. The Cobra, as with all my cars, will be driven regularly, so I am not too worried about mileage. I am looking for excellent Paint/Interior/motor.

I have seen that prices for the cars vary quite a bit, with some examples as low as $30K, so I am kind of lost on picking out cars.

Any help or leads will be much appreciated.

Evan states that your budget is 30-35K, you have a better chance of finding a well built FFR for that price than an ERA or Contemporary. If you up your budget to the 40-45K range, you'll have a much better chance of finding a well built FIA be it ERA, Contemporary, or Unique.

However, you really need to take a step back and educate yourself on each brand, for they are not all factory built, and therefore are not all the same. As the FAQ link in my sigline states, I've seen some fantastic cars built for 20K, and some absolutely horrible cars built for way over 100K. The trick to finding the right car for you will be finding a car that is well built for your budget.

Evan,

You might try Joe R, not sure if he still has his ERA, but if he does, this is one of the display cars at Carlisle...it was also raced extensively and maintained by ERA.

Here is the link to his ad...again this is a number of years back...but you may luck out....his email is in the ad....

Thanx for the info. I am working on gaining an understanding of the cars. I was leaning towards ERA and Factory Five because they were "local"... I am now learning that there are quite a few brands out there, so the research continues.

My budget is $40K.
