Default Shelby American Collection annual fundraiser 9/3/2016 photos

The Shelby American Collection is located near Boulder, CO. The museum houses a large collection of original Shelby Cobras, Daytona Coupes and GT40s along with some other historic Shelby vehicles. Behind the cars is a huge amount of "shop" memorabilia (one corner is from Holman Moody). In addition to the vehicles owned by Steve Volk the significant portion of the Larry Miller collection now resides at this location, with other vehicles on somewhat permanent loan by their owners. This includes the recently acquired original first Cobra, CSX2000, that was recently purchased from Carroll Shelby's estate.

They have an annual fundraiser that draws a large crowd and usually quite a few of the remaining original Shelby crew and drivers. It used to be a Christmas holiday event and Carroll used to come quite often, but a few years ago as his health was failing the time was shifted to the fall.

All photos are linked from Photobucket.

Arrival

Ford GT. This guy picked up an allocation for a new GT and thinks it may be the only one in Colorado.

This is CSX2052 (an early 260 car) and is my favorite Cobra at the museum. Why? Because Peter Werlin drives the snot out of it during the summer and it's a resident at the museum during the winter

Inside with CSX2000. Carroll Shelby's original first Cobra.

Lower area showing blue paint chipped away and showing the yellow color that it was shown with. There was supposed to be a door chip somewhere showing additional colors but I couldn't find it.

CSX2000 was sitting next to the Miller Daytona Coupe CSX2299

Since the museum at the Miller Motorsports Park has closed much of the collection is now at the SAC. This includes the Miller GT40s. Along with J7, there are now 6 GT40's all nestled together here.

Unlike the rest of the cars, this particular one had no placard to give details. I'm trying to get more info.

I have a video walkby that I will post later.

The event usually draws some number of the 60's Shelby American team.

This is Terry Bagley, Carroll's secretary (although most know who really worked for who). She had told a story about how Ken Miles was robbed of his Le Mans win because Ford wanted to stage the photo finish. Unfortunately I didn't get a video of that but did get another story that I'll add later.

This is Terry Bagely, Carroll Shelby's secretary, telling a story about a "cobra". She always has something to tell about "the good old days". She had just finished a tale about how the 66 Le Mans win was taken from Ken Miles because Ford wanted to stage a photo finish.

That is a great collection and your pictures are really great. I am happy that they haven't restored CSX 2000 and left it in the original condition. I would really like to spend a day at that place. Thanks for posting the pictures and history of some of the cars.

My wife and I were in Denver recently and extended our stay so we could drive up to Boulder to visit the Shelby American Collection, which is only open on Saturdays, if you're thinking of going. It was well worth the trip!

I like the configuration of the sidepipe on the black 427 below. Had not seen one like this before.

Also, the COBRA emblem on the wind wings of the same 427 was in a different spot than what I've seen in the past.
