Default Csx2271

Everyone,
In 1977 I got my first ride in a 289 cobra, owned by a Mike Gallagher, Manitowoc, WI. The cobra was silver with a red leather interior. In trying to hunt down the car/Mike I have found a number of posted pictures here on Club Cobra, by phantom03. Some of these pictures were obviously taken in WI as they have Lambeau Field 1976 in one photo, and another references Green Bay.

I have found information relating to the car in the photos (CSX2271), indicating Mike Gallagher as owner, and having sold the car to Bruce Larson (USA-1 funny car fame) in 1990, and it having been restored to original paint some time after that. Andsubsequently the cobra ahving been sold at two Mecum auctions.

Would anyone be able to verify that the CSX2271 sold to Bruce Larsen was indeed owned by Mike Gallagher of Manitowoc, WI.

This is only for personal gratification as this was my first experience with a cobra. It was a ride that I will never forget. It lit the fire in me for cobras.

Mark,
The 2008 Registry does show that Bruce Larson purchased CSX2271 in 7/90 when the car was white. Mike Gallagher is shown as the prior owner, purchasing the car in 5/66 with 1800 miles. In '03 the new owner, Barry Smith, had the car restored and areas of the damaged bodywork replaced and repainted its original silver. It was sold in '07 at a Mecum auction. I believe this car was delivered with the 5 1/2" wires instead of 6" wires even though 6" became standard from about CSX2160

While the lens may have made the trunk lid look excessively long, there is something odd about the rear end of the car even when you look at it in person. The placement of the tail lights is weird - they look too high on the rear fender.

No special lens - just my oldest, cheapest digital camera - a Canon Powershot A300.

The lights DO look a little high on the fenders. Guess that's what happens when your diesel mechanics paint and assemble your Cobra in your garage.

Still a very sweet car.....would love to have it in my garage (though I think I might move the lights down...)

Bringing up a old thread...

I also got a ride in Gallaghers Cobra...around 84? I was about 14-15....lit the fire in me for speed!

I remember it was silver then, and he then had it painted white. Rims were silver. He had said sometime after he bought it, had kept it out a bit long before storing for the winter, and slid into a car and wrecked the front bumper,,,,i believe down town green bay is where it happened.

Mike worked at CNW rail road with my father.

I have pictures of this in our driveway in GB somewhere with him standing next to it.

Memories!!

The registry says that it's owner as of 2003, sent the car to Dave Wagner for complete restoration "during which areas of damaged bodywork were replaced". The car was then repainted it's original silver. You could probably talk to Dave if you have any questions about it's restoration, though that was a few years back.

Might I suggest you wander over to the SAACforum.com , even though the SAAC registrar is here on occasion, you'll find more than a few others that may have seen the car, or know pertinent facts about it there.
