Glass Windwings

Anyone have any experience with glass windwings? Looking at replacing cracked, scratched plexi windwings. Originality is not an issue.

The safety glass one's work and fit well, no issues. Finish Line has them if you are interested.

I had glass ones and they kept breaking and cracking so I had a set made out of Lexan and they have lasted for 10 years and are still just like new.

Hmm.... I know you have to use stainless hardware with the glass to resist cracking/breakage.

I have had them on for 2 years with zero problems. Much better than the plexiglass ones that you could not keep from being scratched. Highly recommend.

Thanks, at only $65 at finishline, i'll give them a try.

spitfun@aol.com 01-20-2018 05:42 PM

I just installed a set on my Unique and had them on one of my FFR's. They look better IMO and I had zero problems with them on my other car. Make sure to use the hardware provided. Rich

I purchased a set of glass windwings from Europa when in England. They have been on the car for 5 years without any problems or scratches. Like Spitfun I also think they look better

Finish Line's glass ones on mine for the last 7 years and no problems. They look much better than the plastic ones, IMO.

Are the Finishline glass wind wings tempered or laminated glass?

KenC 01-21-2018 07:35 AM

I believe tempered.

Seems like that would be illegal for automotive use.

Safety glass is standard for windshields and tempered for everything else.
Just walk around San Francisco and look at all the piles of broken tempered
glass in the gutters...the remnants of another side window break-in.

Since wind wings are pretty susceptible to rock strikes like windshields, it sure seems like an opportunity to get a face full of glass.

I'm sure Finishline can verify if the glass is the laminate or tempered type.

I was all excited to replace plastic (crack included) until I saw the were not compatible with SPF cars.

Mark.

I bought mine from Finishline about 2 years ago. At that time there was no mention of them not compatible with SPF cars. As I said they fit well and have been on my car with no problems.

I've never heard of glass one's, sounds like a nice upgrade.
