Tesla Powered Cobra
Saw this thing run at Del Mar on Sunday, I also got a chance to chat with the owner.
It's really amazing how all it takes is the motor with differential, batteries, and controller to run this car. Hopefully he took the side oiler that came in the Cobra and put it in the Tesla!

Is this the motor and is it in the front or rear end? It looks as if it is below the frame rails if that is what those are.

Thanks Ed, I appreciate the answer. I have never seen one with the electric motors and was wondering how they are mounted along with the battery.

Side pipe exhaust outlet look especially clean, Plus no burning of the leg's ;) So batteries in front, and Motor in rear? Correct? Neat idea, but I think I'll stick with the other way around (Engine up front, Battery in rear)

I think the battery location is determined by the battery manufacturer. If they used a Tesla Model S battery it looks like a rectangular pancake and mounts below the floor in the Tesla. The Model S is a 4 door with a lot more real estate below the floor than a Cobra so I am suspecting a different battery was used and probably mounted where the engine would normally go.
It would be interesting to see a shot with the hood open to see how he built the power source into the car. One of the nice things about the Tesla battery is the under floor placement lowers the car's CG which should translate into better handling. Ed |

The biggest power drain would be the 1000 watt stereo system it needs to produce the same sounds as a real Harley.:eek: JD

Hope the fabrication under the body is better than the build quality on the surface. Electric or not, thing looks like a pile to me.
