Default Raydyot Style Mirror Mod

I picked up these wide angle mirrors on Ebay (auction: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Qty-2-Stick...72.m2749.l2649 )to see if they fit the Raydyot style mirrors and they do! The nice thing is with just a little shaving of the outside plastic bezel the fit INSIDE the housing and look factory. These will make your mirrors functional and not just for looks (see pics)... You can improve the view and retain the stock look by adding fender washers between the mirror base and the mount. I use five fender washers that match the sizing of the mirror base so they don't stand out visually. This extends the mirror outward so that your view isn't of just the rear fender.

Those look good and are functional. I wish they would work in the mirror mounts on my Coupe.

The original “Ray D Yor” mirror had a convex option when you ordered them. I have a convex “Wingard” mirror that takes the place in my original dash mounted Lucas mirror pinch clamps, you can see so much better!

I just ordered two, I already have one and it makes sense to have all three mirrors convex for racing. Does provide a better view of traffic on the track.

The use of mirrors while driving on the street is primarily to check for clearance before changing lanes. Even with the newer cars equipped with detection systems, I turn my head to ensure that my way is clear. With an open car, it is really easy to do. Plus, at my age, it is a good exercise in flexibility.

Thanks for posting that ebay ad! They were so cheap I thought I'd give them a try and they fit my SPF great. I always look over my shoulder too but these give better overview of whats going on behind you all the time.

Tip for anyone else doing this...because the new mirrors are are convex the spring behind the mirror will be too short and loose. To get the mirror apart, push inward on the mirror glass (spring loaded) then remove the edge seal. Then just stack this new mirror in front of the original so the spring still just backs up to the flat mirror as it was. Then push it all in and reinstall the edge seal. Goes back together nice, seal fits and you have a safe storage spot for the original mirror too.

My fix was to extend my mirrors out using Plastic (black) tubing that was the same diameter as the base. 1 in on the drivers side, and 1.5 on the passenger side. I also extended the screw an used a wing nut (also brass core/black plastic) for easy adjustment. Convex in both but used an old BMW motorcycle mirror on the drivers side, it's a lessor convex that gives a better field of depth. That took some work to release it from it's original mount.

Mark.

I also tried these convex eBay items. I think it's a great idea but these mirrors a just
too convex. I don't need to see New York from San Francisco...or was that Tokyo I saw?
