Default Hunt internal coil magneto?

Sure seems like a slick system, no coil, no MSD box, nothing...turn it on and off by switching ground on and off if I understand correctly.

They are pricey though, but are hand US made to order which is nice.

There is an option for a mechanical tach drive, but most are electric these days (including my smiths) are there options for driving these off something besides a coil or MSDbox?

I ran a Joe Hunt Vertex mag in the early 70s, in my 427 Nova. Didn't make me go any quicker but sure made the car consistent on the drag strip. Seems like it was pretty tall so you might want to check your clearance. Love it. Consistency made me money.

Those are nice and also nice and pricey, but quite tall. The standard Performance version wiring show the connection feed you asked about. And an additional $176 for the Ford version.

I have one on my car. I like the look of it but can't comment on its performance. I just ordered a hunt compatible rev limiter for my car. I'm hoping to have it running again this week.

John tried to adjust the timing with the car running last evening and got a nasty shock. Seems like that may indicate a fault with the magneto....? It was wanting to backfire up through the carbs a bit too. I am wondering if there is a problem with the magneto?

You mean the tallness of the Hunt magneto? If so, I don't think so. I just looked at the pictures of the engine in the car and it looks like it clears ok.

Thanks for your comments!

First guess on the backfire is maybe 180° out of position, or maybe just a tooth. (experience). The zap would occur if the ground terminal was inadvertently touched or even gotten too close to. These things put out wo much that they'll take the path of least resistance. May have been easier for the spark to jump a half inch to a finger. (again, experience). My 2¢ worth.
