Vince Vaughn?
If they animate it they could do Speed Racer type driving.
As Ford? As Ferrari?
Sounds like few if any female roles.

Go Like Hell
My favorite part of the book was when Shelby was first lobbying ford for some startup $ and engines, one of the execs (Iacocca I think) said "Give him the money before he bites somebody..." Loved that image...

If he weren't dead, then Philip Seymour Hoffman would have played a great CS.

The Gunny was the Drill Sargent's Drill Sargent. There are roles that actors take which end up defining who they are in filmography. The Gunny did that for R. Lee Ermey — Stunning, just stunning.
As for mimicking the maverick quality of Shelby a Jonny Depp like personality could do some considerable damage :). The tough part is finding or integrating all the other extraordinary qualities the man had into a single actor.
Whoever they pick, I still want to see the movie.

Russell Crow as younger CS.
Robert Duvall would be good as the older CS.

I agree with ford. Clint doesn't smile does he? CS must have had an infections smile.
