Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby...

CSX 4133 06-23-2018 06:05 AM

The casting director needs to be shot.... Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby, what a joke! Typical Hollyweird garbage film I'm betting.

keezling 06-23-2018 08:10 AM

No Tom Cruise? Don't make bib coveralls in children's sizes? Damon says if not a hit he's moving to Italy and buying a Ferrari! Sorry, couldn't resist...

eschaider 06-23-2018 08:24 AM

Whoever did the casting missed the mark by a country mile. Politics not withstanding, Damon is a terrible choice by any measure.

Who would Cobra guys pick to play Shel?

CSX 4133 06-23-2018 09:32 AM

Younger CS, Dennis Quaid. Older CS, Tommy Lee Johns.

So this movie is no longer AJ Baime's "Go Like Hell". The book was to be made into this movie, but the script for this movie is from other sources. Go Like Hell is supposedly going to be a "made for TV" show, but that's not so bad because if someone like Netflix or Amazon pick it up they have already shown they can take a book (e.g., The Alienist) and make a limited series (we used to call them mini-series) that gives a book a good adaptation. A 2 hour movie would miss so much of the book.

I would suggest Josh Brolin to play Carroll Shelby. He has the look and accent.

I really like Steven's idea of Tommy Lee Jones for the middle age to senior Shelby. Tommy Lee could bring a lot to the role and I believe do a very credible and entertaining Shelby.

I am still pretty much undecided on the young Shelby.

Too short by the better part of a foot, and nowadays too weathered.

I love Tommy Lee but can't see him as the gregarious CS.

I can't wait for the movie though!

He's taller than Matt Damon and as for weathering, that's what they have makeup artists for.

Buzz 06-24-2018 03:49 PM

I'm really tired of Tommy Lee's rapid fire monotone in every single role he plays, but with the right makeup, some squinting and maybe a bit of CG, he just might be able to pull of a passable Carroll Shelby. Matt Damon - wth are they thinking?

t walgamuth 06-24-2018 04:08 PM

Matt'l do fine. Easier makeup than Tommy.

Buzz 06-24-2018 04:16 PM

Maybe. I remember my reaction when they announced Michael Keaton as Batman. Beetle Juice??!!
Turned out he wasn't all that bad in the end.

HealeyRick 06-24-2018 04:17 PM

From guys gone by, I'd nominate Jim Garner or Robert Mitchum.

twobjshelbys 06-24-2018 04:19 PM

Garner was my choice too, plus he's a pretty decent driver. They waited too long.

Buzz 06-24-2018 04:55 PM

Didn't Garner play a role loosely based on CS in one of his old movies?

t walgamuth 06-24-2018 07:15 PM

He played a driver in Grand Prix. I don't know if Shelby ever drove F1....did he?

keezling 06-24-2018 07:38 PM

I think I should play Shelby and let me keep the prop cars, including the Ferraris. So what if my acting sucks, all I gotta say is "welllllll and not realllly" like a Texan...
