Talk @ Cobra Registry

As general information, the Talk@CobraRegistry site has sustained a meltdown. That site is being worked on, but a definite restart date can't be forecast. There is an intended move for the site to be shifted to another hosting company, as the current host site is "worthless."

As more favorable news becomes available, Ron will notify the members.

That would explain why I couldn't log on today after a long absence

I apologize to all of the members for the problems but I have been trying to notify all that I have email addresses for what happened. The site started going down over 2 weeks ago, nothing that the members would notice then but I could see things going South on the Administrative page and I must have sent 4 to 6 emails telling them that the site was going down and the problem was in the software at the server. Then the day before it went down I sent an email telling them that in a day of so it was going to crash. I received an email from the owner yesterday that they were working on it but had no time they may have it back working. And then I think he plans to have it moved to a better hosting company as the one it is on is not worth a darn and won't do anything until it crashes. If I hear more I will post it here and thanks top Brent for letting us use his site to inform our members of the problem. If he ever needs to do the same he is more than welcome to do so on our site. Thank you all for your patience.

Ron

Ron you have done a fantastic job for us all. A BIG thank you!

ACademic 10-05-2018 05:43 AM

Thank you, Ron. We appreciate your efforts and updates.

Ron61 10-05-2018 05:59 AM

Thanks guys but there is only so much an Administrator or Moderator can do as they don't have physical access to the servers. Ours are in Southern California and I am in Northern California so I can only look at when things start to show up and refer them to the powers that be,

Sorry to say that I have heard nothing about what if anything they are doing with the site problems. As I have no way to contact them and Jim is having some bad health problems I really can't get any information. I don't know what hosting company he uses but it sucks so far as I am concerned.

If Darren is still the owner, are his other sites down also?

Ron61 10-08-2018 08:25 AM

John,

Yes Darren is still the owner but his business sites are on his own servers and he has his own IT Tech that keeps them going. I don't even know which hosting company he has this site on but it has been a pain for the past three years and they won't fix anything.

Hmm,,, Think planned obsolescence? It probably doesn't make any financial sense to maintain a site with relatively few members and that has no advertising or contributions. Maybe you should consider starting another site. At least you have the time to maintain it.

I just figured I'd been kicked out for too much GM content.

Good luck with the struggle.

I wouldn't worry about that. If you get kicked out , you'll never find out why.

thanks Ron, keep us posted

Glad to have some word about the site - I've been monitoring it for signs of life for a couple weeks without success and couldn't seem to learn anything about what was happening. Looking forward to it getting back up.

This is the latest that I received from Daren.

Hi Ron, I’m in contact with “compass” our IT company. They are working on it. They don’t have an ETA on completion. I know it’s frustrating for everyone. I just sent another email requesting today’s update.. darren

I just received this from Darren so will pass it on to all of you.

Just got this response.

We are working with V-Bulletin which is the plugin used to develop the forum. We are trying to get things working properly again. After that we can focus on moving the site to your GoDaddy hosting and removing the links to cobraregistry.com. We don’t want to transfer the site if things are broken. As mentioned this is a very old site and there is more than meets the eye. We want to provide an accurate quote but are still determining the length of time that will be necessary to get everything you have requested done. In the meantime, we will continue to work with V-Bulletin to get the site working properly

Ron, thanks for the updates. FYI, I'm familiar with Compass (server hosting). In a nutshell, they are well below grade from a servicing and accountability standpoint.

Ron61 10-10-2018 03:43 AM

I couldn't agree more. They have been nothing but a pain to try and get anything fixed and they sure don't monitor the sites or do anything unless they are forced to. Hopefully once this mess is corrected, and some of it I reported over a year ago, and the site is moved we won't have so many problems.

Ron

I noticed the Talk/Cobra Registry site is now gone when I hit my old shortcut Icon on the favorites bar. Hope that is a sign of progress.

Ron61 10-12-2018 03:58 AM

Dan, is what you got? HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found.

I am going to try to find out today but I suspect they are either in the process of removing the bad links of moving the site to the other hosting company. I know that those links are a big mess and it will take time to get them out and removed. :o

Ron
