Thanks Patrick.
Edit for question. Are they just as good or is Mcleod, Ram or others higher quality ? Is the bearing, 1 3/8 in. Shaft diameter ? |
No!
No the TKO 600 input shaft on mine (short shaft) is 1.4375" dia and the bearing is 1.440".
I'm just about to install it. I'm afraid my bearing is unbranded. |
And the Federal Mogul/BCA, now it has a "National" on the box, will last pretty much the life of the car, if installed properly.
EDIT -- Here, you can get it off Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/National-6140.../dp/B003UE8UPA |
35 bucks looks good.
Is this the exact one I need on Rock Auto for $27.79 Only diff is by one number with the bearing size 1.439 not 1.440 (maybe no issue) ? https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/na...e+bearing,1968 |
AC,...are you sure on those specs ?
Was looking on Jegs and did not see them |

Here's a kind-of-recent thread (just 16 years old) where Mike offers them for sale. He's probably still got them. https://www.ffcars.com/forums/38-200...ko-tremec.html

What the hell, what spacer ? |

Here is a thread that discusses the need, or lack thereof, in detail. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/fe-t...put-shaft.html

With the install of my first 428 anf Tremec 3550, I did not use a spacer and I just used a nice condition, 26 spline tool from a guys box that were full of them.
But, I'd rather not take a chance. So help my find the parts at Summit and I'll make a order. |
If you call Mike Forte, I bet he has one of his beautifully crafted alignment tools just sitting in a box somewhere. But, regarding the spacer, alas I can not tell you whether you need one or not.:( You have to measure. Remember, you have two goals: 1) Don't let the nose of the input shaft push up against the crank shaft and destroy your thrust bearing thereby sending shards of metal pumping through the rest of your engine; and 2) have the geometry of the transmission, its mounts, where the shifter comes out on the tunnel, the length of the drive shaft, all work out properly. As a general rule, you will need a spacer if you have the long shaft on the TKO, you will not need the spacer if you have a short shaft on it. But you have to measure to be sure. Don't trust your engine on a "general rule" and just bolt shi* up together with a hope and a prayer that it works. Read that thread on this issue and note post #8 by HSSS427 and the importance of the bellhousing dimensions. Mine is a Lakewood, I have a long shaft in the TKO, and I use a spacer. Don't rely on me, though. Measure, then measure again, then post your measurements and ask for a sanity check from the gallery.
