FederalMogul/BCA Part #614038

FUNFER2 10-22-2018 06:39 PM

Thanks Patrick.

Edit for question.

Are they just as good or is Mcleod, Ram or others higher quality ?

Is the bearing, 1 3/8 in. Shaft diameter ?

AC Ventura 10-24-2018 06:17 AM

No!

No the TKO 600 input shaft on mine (short shaft) is 1.4375" dia and the bearing is 1.440".
I'm just about to install it. I'm afraid my bearing is unbranded.

patrickt 10-24-2018 06:31 AM

And the Federal Mogul/BCA, now it has a "National" on the box, will last pretty much the life of the car, if installed properly.

EDIT -- Here, you can get it off Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/National-6140.../dp/B003UE8UPA

35 bucks looks good.

Is this the exact one I need on Rock Auto for $27.79
Only diff is by one number with the bearing size 1.439 not 1.440 (maybe no issue) ?

AC,...are you sure on those specs ?
Was looking on Jegs and did not see them

A TOB is not splined. That is the exact part I have on my original iron block FE with a Lakewood bellhousing, Tremec TKO, and Centerforce clutch. But, so you know, the driven disk on my TKO is 26 spline.

FUNFER2 10-24-2018 05:38 PM

Sorry, I meant what spline count, so I can order the tool to align the disk.

Remember that you have a Ford crankshaft. Some of the alignment tools for 26 spline driven disks won't fit as nicely as you would like.

FUNFER2 10-24-2018 06:27 PM

So what do we use ?

A clutch alignment tool that fits a 26 spline driven disk, but that also fits in to the back of a Ford crankshaft. I think my local club loans out one made by Mike Forte. Surely they are more available now than over a decade ago, which was the last time I even thought about it. For all I know, you can get them at Autozone, but at least now you are aware of the issue and you're probably thinking "dang, why didn't I think of that?"

FUNFER2 10-24-2018 06:53 PM

Yep,...thinking "dang, why didn't I think of that?" lol...

Out of these ?

Here's a kind-of-recent thread (just 16 years old) where Mike offers them for sale. He's probably still got them. https://www.ffcars.com/forums/38-200...ko-tremec.html

And you probably need the special spacer that goes between your TKO and the block. If you need it, and you don't use it, you'll do a real number on your engine because the nose of the transmission shaft will bottom out on the crank and try and shove it out the front of your car.:(

FUNFER2 10-24-2018 07:09 PM

Should have bought a LS9, Hemi,.....lol

What the hell, what spacer ?

Here is a thread that discusses the need, or lack thereof, in detail. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/fe-t...put-shaft.html

FUNFER2 10-24-2018 07:35 PM

With the install of my first 428 anf Tremec 3550, I did not use a spacer and I just used a nice condition, 26 spline tool from a guys box that were full of them.

But, I'd rather not take a chance. So help my find the parts at Summit and I'll make a order.

patrickt 10-25-2018 09:27 AM

If you call Mike Forte, I bet he has one of his beautifully crafted alignment tools just sitting in a box somewhere. But, regarding the spacer, alas I can not tell you whether you need one or not.:( You have to measure. Remember, you have two goals: 1) Don't let the nose of the input shaft push up against the crank shaft and destroy your thrust bearing thereby sending shards of metal pumping through the rest of your engine; and 2) have the geometry of the transmission, its mounts, where the shifter comes out on the tunnel, the length of the drive shaft, all work out properly. As a general rule, you will need a spacer if you have the long shaft on the TKO, you will not need the spacer if you have a short shaft on it. But you have to measure to be sure. Don't trust your engine on a "general rule" and just bolt shi* up together with a hope and a prayer that it works. Read that thread on this issue and note post #8 by HSSS427 and the importance of the bellhousing dimensions. Mine is a Lakewood, I have a long shaft in the TKO, and I use a spacer. Don't rely on me, though. Measure, then measure again, then post your measurements and ask for a sanity check from the gallery.
