Oh she knows I never do anything "normal". I have a 13' boat that runs over 100mph.

Mr D,

This may be of some assistance in locating the proper mounting points, particularly for shoulder belts: https://www.impactraceproducts.com/r...tFAQ_a/248.htm

For a good cross-section of technically correct mounting info, you could find similar advice on Simpson, G-Force etc web sites.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Over time, you will learn, as most of us have, that asking your wife about her opinion on the minutia items in, on and under the Cobra is not particularly the best idea.

Her mind will keep track of the "Cha Ching-ing" and then she will come to the realization that you are obsessed more, (and are spending more) on the Cobra than on her. That is not a good thing.

So, do NOT ask her about brands of oil, best filter, Will the K&N Extream Top look good, or how do you like the appearance of those new Avon tires....

Ehhh... at times it is best to take the quiet route....

After all.... She let you have the Cobra.... so she thinks.... ;-)

PS: Do NOT show her this thread.
PPS: This advice is also sound with your collection of Snap-On Tools, Guns, Cameras, Sound Systems, Stocks, Airplanes and any other such items many of which most of us "dabble in".

I found that with all things automotive hobby it was "easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission" (with regards to Adm. Grace Hopper)

She has horses so there's never any discussion about expensive hobbies.

Finishline roll bar cross member for attaching shoulder harnesses

Reviving old thread. There has been a lot of talk about the roll bar cross members from Finishline. They offer them in two mounting sizes, 1 1/2" and 2". The roll bars on the Backdraft is 42mm in diameter (see attached pic of the vernier measurement). Would the 2" mounting option fit the Backdraft, bearing in mind that the mounts have a rubber insert as well...? Finishline has not yet responded to the emailed request.

The "2 inch mounting option" would be somewhat bigger than 2" in diameter as it needs to accommodate the rubber sleeves as well.

I think you would be disappointed if you bought that cross bar because the diameter would be way too big to fit your roll-over bar.

Cheers,
Glen

Lomdel,

The Early BDRs (like mine) came factory equipped with the Crossbar.
My Rollbar measures the same as yours. 42mm / 1.62 inch.

I'd contact the Backdraft Factory there in ZA as they can probably source one for you or point to a vendor.

My early Contemporary also has the crossbar mount. Works just fine for me... Matter of fact, I believe if you look at Ken Miles car in the early days, you will see that his race car had a crossbar harness mount...

I'd class that tube as 1 5/8.

One thing you need to know. Racing organizations have outlawed 3” wide lap belts because they don’t fit low on the pelvis well. Get 2” lap belts.

spdbrake 07-19-2019 09:28 PM

The Racing organizations will accept 2" belts now that were once used for Juniors and that acceptance is based on changes to SF16.1 16.5 16.6. The 3" belts are still acceptable.

https://www.sfifoundation.com/wp-con...6.1_022614.pdf
https://www.sfifoundation.com/wp-con...6.5_122914.pdf

So basically all three specs allow widths of 1.72" min - 3.10" max.

lomdel 07-22-2019 06:49 AM

Backdraft factory in SA does not stock that part anymore. If the Finishline 1 1/5" clamps are a bit bigger to accommodate the rubber insert, it should fit the 1 5/8" size of the Backdraft rollbars just fine. However, Finishline does not have stock of the 1 1/5" ones and they do not respond to emails. Maybe one of you guys have an inside line to Taylor at Finishline to ask when will they get stock again...?
Has anyone dealt with these guys yet? https://www.pythonvehicles.com/interior

lomdel 07-23-2019 01:09 AM

I hope you guys don't mind, but I would like to continue this conversation in another more aptly named thread : http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/shop...t-belts-2.html . The thread title would generate more focused response, I hope. Please join me over there...
