I keep black hoodie sweatshirt in the trunk at all times. Mainly for the passengers, but I have been know to put it on in the mornings. The only issue with sweatshirts is that they can still be cold in the wind or on the freeway. Usually when I drive out here in California, I wear a leather jacket. My 10 year old lamb skin jacket is usually fine around summer time. It keeps the wind off which is usually enough for me. In winter, I wear a motorcycle jacket with a zip out liner. I like the long sleeves that zip shut on the motorcycle jacket because with gloves, I am good. With a hat or beanie, I am good into the low 30s. Any colder than that, and I really should not drive the Cobra with its summer tires.
In the summer on long trips, I will wear a long sleeve shirt end when it gets warm. Mainly to keep the sun off of me.
Good luck and let us know what you end up with.
