Ouch!

Looks to me like he got hit from the right and was moving when it happened. This would make the damage worse as it came in while the cobra was moving forward.

Makes me like my roll bar mount a lot.

Oh and as far as weakening it the hole would have to be fairly big. If 1/8" no measurable effect, if a half inch, probably measurable IMHO.

The hole should be large enough to use a grommet - you don't want the metal edges to abrade the wire insulation.

It would be LAW that 3rd brake lights are to be a PERMANENT part of the vehicle if required.
