Coachsmithing..anyone know much about
Coachsmithing -- Delahaye, Bugatti, Ferrari, Alloy C7 Corvette
I know the aluminum body sells for $20k |
We’ve chatted with him by email a little. Haven’t seen his work in person though. He makes panels that are slightly oversized for fitting. Fitting the panels and welding/grinding seams is a big part of the job though. I think he would do that too if you sent him a frame but that isn’t included in the $20K price.

Thanks.. I have email chatted with him as well. I actually found out a friend of mine was a former employee.

My doors, boots and hood from the two 289 cars I have are all from Allen.
Affordable and high quality is my vote! Always easy to work with..... Jeff |
Jeff, he did the fitting and trimming, correct?
Larry |
Negative, that was Panel Craft
|
So bringing the frame to him is an option?
|
Yes, I as I understand it but better clarify with them. We only discussed panels.
Keep in mind it has to be an original style frame with all the birdcage tubing to wrap the body around. Larry |
Way more than 20k fitted.....,

Ok, I feel like an idiot but I HAVE seen his work in person! I was looking at the pictures on his website and noticed that the same Tojeiro that's here in Tucson was bodied by Coachsmithing!
Having seen this car and talked to the owner a number of times, I feel like a moron for not noticing it before but it is very well done! Larry https://i.postimg.cc/d0xV6czV/Tojeiro.png |
What I have seen is good stuff !

Example; this is an FIA small block frame from the old company Hi Tech USA, for an aluminum body. Note all the smaller tubing to hold and attach the body. https://i.postimg.cc/5yTNgGpL/FIA-Frame.jpg Are you looking for a big block or small block car? Larry |
The Superformance 289 cars use the birdcage design, but not sure that you can order just a frame from them. Thinking probably not, but worth checking into. My 289 FIA has the original style frame.

Larry, Big Block car |
Got it. I’m not sure of any big block frames for sale right off hand but I’ll ask around.

Thank you

Currently working on a big block chassis should be ready beginning of April if anyone’s interested let me know it will come witht control arms, spindles and foot boxes
Can set up for your engine, transmission Tom |
I recently acquired a completed 289 birdcage, leafspring, small block chassis that looks identical to the one pictured above from Hi Tech except it includes the door frames as well. I am currently trying to decide if I want to start assembly of my dream cobra using this chassis or sell it and just order a FFR kit. Especially since my preference would be a 427 car, not a 289 car. And this being my first build, not sure I want to go down the road of sourcing all of the parts to make this work versus just buying a complete kit. I have been wondering on a price for aluminum bodies as well, which is why this thread caught my attention.
My question is how much would a completed chassis like this be worth? |
