Default SPF and CSX 289 Slabside Comparison

The earlier thread CSX vs SPF body molds really discussed the 427 cars which definitely have different bodies and chassis. We know SPF builds the fiberglass bodies and chassis for all the CSX cars but my question is related to the 289 cars. The only difference I see is the standard differential is a ZF ( with a Shelby style upgrade available), badging, and a CSX tag.

Are the body lines the exact same? Chassis the same? Dash layout? Any other real differences between these 2 cars.......other than the 30k roller price

Thanks

I visited Hillbank in January and from what I understand the SPF & CSX 289 cars are virtually the same other than minor cosmetic tweaks. The increased price tag for the SPF 289 roller vs its 427 counterpart reflects its "custom" chassis that mirrors the original car in most respects.

The 289 is a BEAUTIFUL car in person & would be my first choice if I could justify the 100K plus price for a non-CSX replica. Actually, I could but I don't think the wifey would.

As mentioned, the Shelby slab vs the SPF slab (with optional Kirkham rear diff) are identical with only very minor details setting them apart.. such as ‘Shelby’ lettering on CSX calipers vs ‘Wilwood’ on SPF, etc.

What Jeff said above. The differences are minor and cosmetic. We for example spec a black dash when ordering a red or tan interior; no Cobras had a red or tan dash. Shelby does not seem to remember this fact. If you want a color matching dash we can provide it but we inform customers so they can choose.

The 289 series cars are fantastic autos; light and tossable, a real driver's car.

My ERA Slabside with Jag rear, inboard calipers and 289 SB is very close. Most importantly it is a joy to drive.

The main difference being the chassis. The SPF uses a ZF diff and cv joints. The Shelby uses the Salisbury style and spicer drive shafts

The Salisbury type is optional on the Superformance chassis as well.

Shelby offers aluminum or fiberglass body.
SPF offers fiberglass, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct. SPF does not offer the alloy body but I think the question was related to the composite body cars and their differences.

Doesn't a ERA slabside have a coil spring suspension rather than the original type leaf spring set up?

Great info.... the 289 Slabside cars have really grown on me. Definitely have more character than our 427s in my opinion.

Marklotus,

Correct with two coil overs on each side of the rear. There are as well several other items, eg brakes, ignition and tires that are different from the original AC Cobras making the current Slabside-Big Block cars better and safer.

Yes, ERA is a coil-over frame and looks nothing like a Cobra frame...
Great cars, more rigid than original but body off nothing like an SPF, KMS or CSX
