Hi-Tech Motorsports questions
Hello, I'm new to the forum, but always wanted a cobra 427. I am looking at a Hi-Tech Motorsports Cobra that I would like to get a better understanding of history and value. The car is in good driven condition, not a concourse car, but looks very authentic. 4,600 miles and a FORD 428 ENGINE, ENG# DE447.
It has the Shelby American plaque in the engine bay with the chassis number. Is there a way to look that number up to get some history? Are these Hi-Tech cars very desirable? Do they hold better value than a Superformance? Thank you in advance for your help. |

Top notch cars, done very well just that the company owners were more artist than business man.
Accurate and as Craig said, if put together right "top of the heap" Remember, there were around 17 of the transition cars, they are less accurate and in my opinion less attractive. If I am right these were the beginnings of the CSX continuation cars. If I am wrong I am sure I will be corrected. :cool: |
A friend had Hi Tech build an aluminum replica of CSX 3002 and I ended up with it and owned it for many years. It was an amazing car, pictures are in my gallery.

The Hi-Tech i am looking at is on ebay for $75k. It looks more worn than the miles suggest. Any knowledge of this particular car and value?

more photos are needed to assess the value... the shelby tag can be purchased
for $10 on line, however the hi-tech car may be very nice and be worth the $75k |

Never mind, I found the listing. I’m not sure why you feel it looks more worn than the mileage suggests...looks like a very nice car to me. Whether it’s a “good deal” or not is a relative thing, I guess. I bought my Hi-Tech last year for considerably less, but mine is a 351 Windsor-based car. That bothers me not one bit, because it makes just as much power as most FE-motored cars and is lighter to boot, but for some folks it would have been a deal-killer. The seller of this one says he’s got over $100K invested; $75K may make it a “deal” if that’s true.

Looks okay to me.. but there are no undercarriage photos for the top dollar they are asking.
Really, at 75k, I would save a bit more and get a used ERA or Kirkham. To see a kirkham in person is to fall in love with the thing. You could also get a pretty nice superformance now for 55-60k. -Dave |
$75K is a pretty good deal for a Hi Tech. Have it checked out as you would any other car though but they don't get much more accurate than that. See if the differential is a Ford 9". The 9" is very strong, just a little heavy.

I toured Hi Tech back in 1995 when Run N Gun was in Phoenix. At that time Tim Gunning owned it. Really nice car, you could park it next to an original Shelby and swap parts back and forth. (Other than they modified a 9" Ford to be an independent rear) They have the correct "squat" in the rear unlike the Superformance I now own. One member of our Minnesota group has one and its pretty impressive. This car was the "Kirkham" of its day.I
would not hesitate to own one. At 75K it does not seem that far out of line in my opinion. |
I see it as a well maintained Hi-Tech, it say's 75K, or Make Offer. You can always go up :). I say make a low ball offer first, worse they can say is No ;) Remember it's a buyer market right now. Isn't this the car that started the whole rear tire in fender placement issue??? Cheers Tom.

Thanks all. I love originality, but am concerned about drivability/reliability here in Los Angeles, where there is almost always traffic trying to get anywhere. Would the Roush motors and Tremec gearboxes or any others tend to be more suited for me?
