Default Pesky oil leakage solved

Got my oil cooler leakage fixed but still had oil coating the chassis...

Finally dawned on me laying under the car that the oil still misting all over my chassis might just be the damned drain bolt? Ive got the usual canton 15-680s 351w pan with the shallow canton plug. I bought a big old 1/2-20 3/4” long bolt from true value along with a copper washer and wound that bad Boy on in (lots more threads than the short bolt)...

Lo and behold after a messy session under there with a pressure washer, shes as dry as a popcorn fart now! Nice and clean...

Congratulations....I change that washer everytime I change the oil. Only thing left is the cleaning.

I expect the washer fixed it.

Certainly a long bolt sticking through a short threaded hole did nothing to stop the leak.

The Canton washers come on a sheet of about ten or so. And since I'm changing my oil now around every four years, a sheet should last me past 100.

I wondered about that too. I have several cars that don't get many miles on them annually but I try to change oil at least every 2 to 2-1/2 years at most.

No, I go by the oil analysis, which I do yearly. If the oil is not acidic, abrasive, or contaminated then there is absolutely, positively no reason to change it. But, if you ask somebody "tell me why you are changing your oil every year," and the reason they give is "because it might have blah, blah, blah in it." If you ask them, "why don't you just test for blah, blah, blah and track it?" They invariably respond with "because it makes me feel better to just blindly change it and not to tax my pea brain with any facts."

EDIT -- Let me add a caveat to that. I do change the oil before the ZDDP could be consumed, having a SFT, because the oil analysis does not tell you whether the ZDDP has been used up, it just tells you the values for zinc and phosphorous, which don't change as the oil ages.

Thanks for the info. Going to try out the oil analysis kit. Just ordered one.

15/40 delo change every 3 months or 1000 miles no waiting for test results 6500 rpms 427 stoker roller cam 7000 miles and counting. wix oil filter. no issues. Just sayin.

And you never know if you're leaking coolant in to your oil, or have abnormal wear, until it's too late. All because you're "just sayin" that you don't need to test for it.

No sir no oil in coolant, no coolant in oil. Did find some oil under car tightened oil pan bolts cleaned things up and now all good just sayin.
