Default harbor freight jackstands recall

I'm sure a few folks may have these.

Something my dad taught me years ago is always put the wheel removed under the vehicle as a back-up to the jackstand unless it would be completely in the way for the work needed. You need to put it somewhere anyway. Will you ever need that wheel to support the vehicle, hopefully not. But if you did, well....

Tom's suggestion is a good one. I have always done that but don't know if I learned it from someone or if it was sort of intuitive.

One suggestion to add to Tom's: Put a towel over the wheel/tire then a 2' x 2' piece of 1/2" or 3/4" plywood on top.

If the jack/jack stand does fail, the frame as it falls could crush/damage/blemish the wheel rim edges even with an inflated tire.

The plywood distributes the load and the towel acts as an abrasion prevention.

Maybe I'm overly careful.

Cheers
Greg

So Harbor Freight is on its third round of recalls
as the replacement stands are cracking as well. https://www.thedrive.com/news/34629/...r-weld-defects

I'll be returning the jack stands I got a couple weeks ago that took the place of the ones I returned for the first recall. This time I think they are actually offering cash refunds rather than just a gift card. I'll take the cash to the NAPA store up the street and buy jack stands from there. Hopefully, they will be made in a better part of China.

Took all 4 of mine back today. Got my in store credit of $65. Ended up leaving with a 2 ton engine hoist so I could put my engine in. Figured it was a good swap.....

They had no choice. It's listed and widely disseminated by the NHTSA. I wouldn't give Harbor Freight squat for credit.
