Tires
I am running nitto nt 05s on my car and thinking of changing to a different tire. I do not like the way the front tires, cause the car to jump around. What would be a good performance tire with good manners that you could recommend ? 245 17 front and 315 17 rear car is a 2013 backdraft around 600 hp. Thank you for your thoughts.%/

I have the same tire, and don't have that problem. Maybe your alignment is off? Something loose? Corner weights off? How old is the tire?
I recently replaced my rear tires. Apparently, the NT05 is in limited supply, and no new product expected. It may be discontinued soon? Do a little search here. You'll find this question has been asked many many times. You'll get a lot of good answers and good suggestions in <1 minute. |
Could be from sitting, I have looked on site but reely could not find anything useful.

Just about any high performance tire will cause your car to dart on a rutted road. Does the same on my 2011 GT Mustang when I went with a higher performance design.
I'm running Mickey Thompson Street Comp Ultra High Performance Tires and love them. But they too, dart on a rutted asphalt road, not so much on concrete. |
hauss,
Manners? High performance? Maybe that's a "just pick one?" As to jumping around, there are a number of other things other than tires that can make that worse: Alignment: toe-in, caster, camber Condition and adjustment of the front shocks, Play in any of the front suspension components or steering (remember if they are there - the u-joints in the steering shaft - those were only slightly loose on mine but had a big effect). Hope this helps, Tom |
Nitto NT-01. They're a track tire, not a drag tire like NT-05. Would I drive either one in the rain? No.

Swift,
Don't do like I did and get the tire labels confused: the NT-05 is a wear rating 200 street tire. If you want to go drag racing, add R so you get NT-05R. The NT-05 is OK in the rain. Not outstanding, but adequate. The NT-05R would be dicey... Nitto says the "R" designation has a wear rating of 00 LOL The NT-01s are intended for road racing and have a wear rating of 100. Tom |
Thanks Infletcher I will give the mickeys a try. Wounder if I should change the fronts from 245 to 235 . let me know what you guys think, I am no expert in this area and need a lot of help.

I don't think 10mm will make a difference on the feel.

NT01s are what I run, but they are no good wet. I have no intention of driving in the rain. FFR recommends Toyo Proxies R888. They have a good rain rating, but I have never tried them. They are available in the sizes you are looking for. Toyo and Nitto are sister companies, from what I've been told. Good luck, be safe Mark PS: Try 22 psi to start with that size tire on the Cobra. |
I am running the the PS2 335/35 17" on my SPF. Good tires

Guess what ,you are not going to believe this. I lifted the car and started checking things and found that nt05s are directional . looks like when the fronts were installed, they got them wrong. Must have been looking at the car from the front, instead of the divers seat.%/

Do yourself a favor, make sure your toe-in is correct before you buy new tires. 1/16" to 1/8" toe-in, favoring the 1/8" to see if it makes a difference. Toe-out with tires like yours will dart all over.
|
To whom it may concern . I switched the tires today and went for a drive. All I can tell you is night and day difference ! Nittos are directional and yes ,they are very sensitive, if installed backwards, on a cobra. Also dropped the tire pressure to 22 psi, as recommended on a different post ,with these tires and our cars.
