Still dealing with some issues . Replaced all hoses new coolant and new dizzy. ordered new fan and now looking at radiators. Anyone have a good one that they could recommend for a backdraft?

I recently finished installing a Mishimoto X-line (fits E36 BMW which is what a BDR uses).
The X-line is a 3 row 91% capacity than the supplied OEM E36 unit.

https://www.mishimoto.com/bmw-e30-e3...tor-92-99.html
A bit cheaper here:
https://www.amazon.com/Mishimoto-MMR.../dp/B00U2C4SMM

That said the the 2 row Mishimoto is more than adequate as a replacement.
(I had bought the X-line as Amazon had mis-priced it awhile back.)

https://www.amazon.com/Mishimoto-MMR...3955766&sr=8-3

Be aware if you use the x-line the coil area is 550mm wide vs 520mm stock, + the side tanks are much larger. So picking up your old mount holes to the car and for the fan shroud need to be measured from centerline.

Hoses are all the same except the lower hose which needs a 45 bend. Dayco: 70115 or NAPA: NBH 7196 will work.

I have an early car and used 2 Mishimoto 10" race fans which honestly made it drivable in Texas summer traffic. https://www.mishimoto.com/race-line-...ow-fan-10.html

As far as the radiator, I did not like the horror stories of the OEM BMW radiator plastic side tanks giving way and stranding folks.

Last tip: Cover the front and back of the coil fins with cardboard while working/fitting etc... take the cardboard off the front once you get the upper bolts tacked on, and off the back once the shroud is tacked on. Tough lesson from when I was 16, lol.

have to say old radiator was in good shape ordered a spec d 3 row aluminum recommend from a bimmer racing site company located in Livermore ca.local to me also a new flex lite fan. old fan bearings were going out. I will let you know how everything works.

spdbrake 10-13-2021 11:09 AM

I had looked at the Spec-D radiators when I was searching.
Could not find a Spec-D for a E36 in 3 row and the only 3 row they offered was for an E46.
The price was 1/2 of what anyone else had to offer though but the 90 day warranty was a no-go for me.
CSF 12 mo.
Koyo 18mo.
Griffin 36mo.
Mishimoto lifetime and includes Auto accidents.
(All are orig purchaser only and not passed on when car is sold)

Well, if I have to I will throw it through their front window. Like I said they are local. It is listed as a 3 row for a BMW Z3 Should be a close if not exact fit, so I am told. And you are right less than half the cost.I will let you know I will be receiving it tomorrow.

What should I do

Ok just got my so called 3-row and it is a two row 1/2 holes. Not sure waiting to hear from vendor maybe wrong part not sure. New rad is 1 1/2" thick old rad is 1 3/4" thick signal row but 1" tubes with plastic sides New rad is all aluminum with nice welds looks well made.I will keep you all posted. I am thinking old radiator might be better but read about thinner may work better for air flow . I would like to know what others think if I should use new radiator if I am told I got the right one or should I go a different route like speedbrake suggested.

Highest output Z3 was 228 HP, or 315 HP for the Z3M. Is that radiator going to be sufficient to cool your engine? I have doubts.
